In the current political year, the central and regional governments continue to make efforts to anticipate and ward off threats and disturbances that will begin to emerge. One of them is the spread of radicalism, intolerance and terrorism. The efforts made include holding seminars and outreach, especially to the younger generation in schools, campuses and Islamic boarding schools.

The Madago Raya Operation Task Force (Satgas) of the Central Sulawesi Regional Police is equipping the community and students at the Al-Izzah As’adiyah Tolai Islamic Boarding School, Torue District, Parigi Mountong Regency to ward off radicalism and intolerance ahead of the elections through Tabligh Akbar activities.

Head of Operations (Kaops) for Madago Raya Regional Police for Central Sulawesi, Police Commissioner Deny Jatmiko, said that this tabligh akbar aims to maintain security and public order (harkamtibmas) in Central Sulawesi Province. Deny explained that this tabligh akbar was a form of cooling system to avoid any potential that could cause conflict in society ahead of the elections.

This is also in line with the main tasks and functions of the Madago Raya ops task force in an effort to provide understanding to the public and the younger generation regarding the dangers of radicalism and intolerance. The resource persons presented at the Tabligh Akbar activity certainly have experience in their fields and have the capability to provide material to the public and students regarding the dangers of radicalism and intolerance.

Regional governments and other related agencies often have direct contact with the community. This is to increase awareness and increase public knowledge so that they can contribute directly to creating a safe and peaceful social security and order situation.

Apart from that, the National Police Research and Development Center (Puslitbang) Team conducted research on strengthening the role of the National Police in tackling intolerance and radicalism to prevent terrorism, at the Mempawah Police. This activity was attended by the Head of the Research Team, Police Commissioner Saefudin Mohamad and his entourage and was attended by all Mempawah Police Personnel and agencies in the Mempawah Regency Regional Government.

Mempawah Resort Police Chief (Kapolres), AKBP Sudarsono, said that the arrival of the National Police Research and Development Team was in the context of research activities on strengthening the role of the National Police in tackling intolerance and radicalism to prevent terrorism in the political year. Sudarsono hopes that this event will be useful and useful in supporting social security and order in Mempawah Regency

On this occasion, the Head of the Research Team, Police Commissioner Saefudin Mohamad, expressed his thanks to the Police Chief and Mempawah Police personnel as well as the invitees who also attended. Carrying out research on strengthening the role of the Police in tackling intolerance and radicalism to prevent terrorism in 2023, in order to determine the challenges of the Police in efforts to tackle terrorism and this activity will be reported to the Police Leadership.

Police Commissioner Saefudin Mohamad said that the research was carried out to identify and analyze the challenges faced by National Police personnel, especially Mempawah Police personnel, in overcoming intolerance and radicalism in order to prevent terrorism. Knowing the role of the National Police and the community in anticipating intolerance and radicalism in order to maintain the stability of social security and order in society.

Apart from that, the aim of the police to carry out outreach and research is of course to prevent the potential for intolerance to emerge so that all personnel are not exposed to or affected by intolerance and radicalism and so that the 2024 elections continue to run peacefully and with integrity.

Of course, there must be harmony that must be maintained by all parties during the 2024 Election. Apart from that, the aim of synergy and harmony is to create a peaceful, honest, fair and integrity 2024 Election as well as realizing the election as a means of national integration by rejecting all forms of action that conflict with rule.

Apart from the younger generation, women play a strategic role in preventing radicalism, especially in protecting their families and communities from all forms of spread and invitations from radical groups. Head of the Sub-Directorate for Asia Pacific and Africa Cooperation at the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT), Harianto, said that referring to the results of the BNPT survey in 2020, it was stated that the most effective factors in reducing the potential for radicalism were, respectively, social media dissemination, internalization of local wisdom, counter-radical behavior and patterns of family education for children.

According to the survey results, there are several factors that are most effective, including the role of women as it relates to family education for children. Women have a very vital position in the family and even in society more broadly. Women can be filters or early detectors of any irregularities found in their respective families.

For this reason, the key to cultivating children’s character and identity relies heavily on the role of women. Women in roles like this actually become a bulwark against the influence of radical understanding and ideology which is now starting to target young children. So efforts are needed to instill national values, religious insight and local wisdom in the family to be very effective as a filter in preventing the spread of terrorist radicalism.
