The Group of Twenty (G20) Summit in Bali, Indonesia on 15-16 November 2022 will be an important moment to overcome the global crisis. At the G20 Summit, Indonesia will act as the leader or presidency to replace Italy from December 1, 2021, until November 30, 2022.
The G20 Summit is an international forum that focuses on policy coordination in the economic and development fields. G20 members are countries that represent the world’s economic and political powers. The G20 Summit began as a meeting at the level of the Minister of Finance and Central Bank Governors, in 1999. This meeting became increasingly intense and became the agenda of the Annual Summit which was attended by Heads of State and Heads of Government of each G20 Member State.
This year the world is experiencing a crisis after the Covid-19 pandemic, and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The G20 Summit can be the right solution to resolve the global crisis that has hit many countries in the world today.
This is as expressed by President Joko Widodo who acts as chairman of the G20 presidency during his visit to attend the G7 summit in Germany. The President said that Indonesia would encourage and invite the G7 countries to jointly seek peace in Ukraine and also find solutions as soon as possible in dealing with the food crisis, the energy crisis that is currently sweeping the world. The President continued that this effort is not easy, but Indonesia will continue to do its best.
The President of the European Union Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also said the same thing as President Joko Widodo. He said that the G20 summit could be an opportunity for member countries to talk directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin about his country’s conflict with Ukraine.
The G20 Summit is not only important for developed countries, but also for developing countries. Because in the G20 Summit there are many collaborations that can be discussed by the leaders of member countries. Cooperation among the world’s major economic groups can have political and economic power, and has the capacity to promote post-Covid-19 recovery. The G20 summit can also be a way to prevent people from developing and low-income countries from falling into extreme poverty and hunger.
As the G20 Presidency, Indonesia carries the theme Recover Together, Recover Stronger which means to recover together, and rise up mighty. With this theme, Indonesia wants to invite the whole world to work hand in hand, support each other to recover together and grow stronger and more sustainable.
Hopefully the G20 Summit can be a surefire way for Indonesia and each member country to rise up to overcome all the global crises that are hitting the world today. In the future we hope that the world’s life can be more peaceful and peaceful, without war and Covid-19.
