A number of ambassadors from friendly countries praised the 2019 general election which was considered peaceful and smooth.
Ambassador of the Republic of South Korea (South Korea) to Indonesia Kim Chang-beom praised the holding of the 2019 Election in Indonesia. According to Kim, this year’s election took place peacefully and calmly than before. Kim said, he had served in Indonesia in the period 2003-2005, so I had the chance to witness the 2004 general election. There were some differences that I felt. First, the election this time was held peacefully and calmly.
Next, continued Kim, the presidential debate on TV felt more interactive. According to him, the debate was enough to give a picture to the public about the different policies and agendas of each pair of candidates for president and vice president.
He hopes that after the Indonesian elections will have a brighter future. According to him, through the 2019 Election Indonesia managed to show the maturity of democracy in the last 15 years.
Kim explained, one element that needs to be remembered is that through this election the Indonesian nation has succeeded in showing democratic maturity in the last 15 years. It is hoped that the 2019 General Election will have a positive impact on bilateral relations between Indonesia and South Korea, which currently Indonesia and South Korea are at the peak of cooperation. The two countries are currently at the height of the collaboration we call the Special Strategic Partnership. Hopefully the new government can make this relationship even better, especially in the fields of culture, education and tourism.
