Together Creating Peace, Re-establishing Community Consolidation After the 2024 Regional Elections

JAKARTA — The regional level democratic celebration through the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections has been held and the community is asked to unite again.

In the post-election period, maintaining stability and creating peace is a shared task to ensure harmony amidst diversity.

National figures called for the importance of tolerance, respect for the results of political contests, and cooperation between all elements of society in maintaining the integrity of the nation.

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, emphasized the importance of maintaining stability after the election for the sake of the continuity of community activities.

“The success of a regional election is not only seen from the process, but also how the public responds to the results,” said Dasco.

He highlighted that although the voting results did not always meet everyone’s expectations, efforts to maintain security remained a priority.

Dasco also emphasized that law enforcement and the professionalism of security forces play an important role in overcoming potential riots.

“Respecting the diversity of political choices is the foundation for creating an inclusive and democratic society,” he added.

The Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Da’wah Commission, KH Ahmad Zubaidi, invited preachers to become peacemakers after the Regional Head Elections.

“Even though the implementation of the regional elections went well and smoothly, the potential for division still exists,” said Kiai Zubaidi.

He emphasized the role of preachers in uniting the people and preventing conflict in society.

“Our job is to ensure that society is peaceful, united and able to function well. We must observe and mitigate the conditions of society, including on social media,” he said.

According to him, being wise in using social media is very important so that unity is maintained and the nation does not get caught in extreme polarization.

Vice Chancellor III of Ngurah Rai University, Dr. Gede Wirata, said that Indonesian people have shown maturity in politics.

However, he warned that post-contest tensions would actually be detrimental to society.

“When tension occurs, the people are the ones who suffer. If we get too caught up in conflict, it is difficult to achieve peace,” Wirata explained.

He also emphasized the important role of community leaders in calming the situation through outreach and education that promotes tolerance and solidarity.

The invitation to unite in a spirit of unity and unity is now the main agenda.

By maintaining tolerance and respecting differences, society can create harmony and focus on joint development for a better future.
