Sustainable Projects in IKN, Building a City with an Inclusive Concept

The development of the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) continues to be a major concern in Indonesia’s national development journey. Efforts to realize Nusantara as a sustainable and inclusive city are reflected in various concrete steps taken by the government. During the visit of the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) to IKN in November 2024, several important aspects of this development were re-emphasized, demonstrating the government’s commitment to prioritizing transparency and good governance.

The presence of the BPK group in the core area of the IKN, including the Core Area of the Government Center (KIPP), provided an opportunity to directly review the progress of physical and administrative development. The group was led by Member III of the BPK RI, Akhsanul Khaq, who expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the IKN Authority in maintaining sustainable development. During the field review, the BPK observed facilities such as the ASN Flats, Ceremonial Plaza, and MBH Reservoir, which were designed as part of a sustainable city ecosystem.

The development process in the IKN is not only focused on the physical aspect, but also on the concept that prioritizes environmental sustainability. The Head of the IKN Authority, M. Basuki Hadimuljono, explained that the Nusantara development concept prioritizes a balance between modern infrastructure and nature conservation. This is clearly seen in the design of housing such as the ministerial landed houses (RTJM), which are built with the forest city concept. These residences are designed to be in harmony with the topographic contours of the area, reflecting a commitment to environmental sustainability.

With a total of 36 RTJM units almost completed, this project shows how the government designs facilities to support the mobility and productivity of state officials. The design combines modern elements with sustainability, where each house has a building area of 736 square meters and stands on a fairly large land, namely between 1,200 to 1,500 square meters. This house is not only a place to live, but also a symbol of the transformation of the archipelago into an environmentally friendly city of the future.

In addition, the government also ensures that every stage of development in the IKN is carried out with the principle of accountability. In discussions between the IKN Authority and the BPK, it was agreed on the importance of transparency in budget use. Akhsanul Khaq emphasized that the development trajectory that is already on the right track must continue to be maintained. With strict supervision, the government is committed to making the IKN an example of good governance at the national level.

The IKN project also has a significant social dimension. By building facilities such as Taman Kusuma Bangsa and Plaza Seremoni, the government is creating a comfortable public space, where residents and visitors can interact in a comfortable and beautiful atmosphere. This step is in line with the vision of making Nusantara an inclusive city, where all parties, including local communities, have the opportunity to participate in city development. This project does not only focus on benefits for state officials, but also opens up space for all elements of society to enjoy the results of development.

It is important to note that the development of the IKN involves various parties, including the private sector, which has made a major contribution in providing high-quality facilities. For example, the development of Swissotel Nusantara, where the BPK group stayed overnight, is a real example of how the private sector has supported the success of this project. This collaboration between the government and the private sector is a strong foundation to ensure that the development of the IKN runs according to plan.

In every step of development, the government takes a planned and holistic approach. The review by the BPK, for example, is proof that the government is opening up space for independent supervision and evaluation. This is important to ensure that projects funded by public funds are not only in accordance with the plan, but also provide maximum impact for the wider community. The Head of the IKN Authority also emphasized that the reports and work plans submitted to the BPK are designed to provide a big picture of the direction of Nusantara development. Thus, transparency becomes a main pillar in every policy taken.

The development of the IKN also serves as a catalyst to encourage innovation in resource management. The government is utilizing modern technology and design to ensure that the city is not only a symbol of progress, but also resilient to future challenges, including climate change. Every element, from financial governance to infrastructure design, is designed to reflect the government’s long-term vision. This gives hope that Nusantara will be an example for other cities in Indonesia in implementing sustainable development principles.

Overall, the development of the IKN is a real representation of the government’s commitment to presenting a better future for all Indonesian people. With strict supervision, collaboration between institutions, and an inclusive design concept, Nusantara is a symbol of successful development based on the principles of justice, sustainability, and transparency. This project is not just about building a new city, but also creating a legacy that will benefit future generations. In this context, the support of all parties is key to ensuring that Nusantara truly becomes the future capital of Indonesia.
