Supporting Law Enforcement Officials to Discipline Religious Organizations from Radicalism

By: Muhammad Yasin)*

Radicalism is very dangerous because it has penetrated into religious organizations. The community supports law enforcement officers so that they can control religious organizations from radicalism that can threaten the integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.

Radicalism has become a very dangerous understanding because it can poison people’s minds, by making them look as if they are holy people. Even though it is just a cover, because radicalism, which is affiliated with terrorism, often uses violence to fulfill its wishes. For example, by attacking, sweeping without permission, and even bombing public facilities.

Eradication of radicalism occurs everywhere. Not only in the field but also among civil servants, as well as organizations related to the government such as the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). When two Bengkulu City MUI administrators were found to be members of a radical group, the public was very surprised. The reason is that radicalism has penetrated into the MUI secretly, so they are afraid of its spread.

Yul Khamra, Chairman of the Bengkulu City MUI, stated that the two MUI administrators with the initials RH and CH had been deactivated. Because, they have been declared as suspects in radical cases. Khamra said he was surprised because they served in strategic positions.

Khamra added that before that he never had any suspicions about RH and CH. They are bright scholars and sociable as usual. Moreover, since 2005, he has been active in MUI, so when he suddenly got caught in a case, it was very surprising.

The community fully supports controlling the members of this Ormas so that MUI is not poisoned by radical understanding. When there are members, even if there are only 2 people, who are involved in cases of radicalism, they must be investigated thoroughly. Don’t just be arrested and then there’s no further investigation and investigation, because they could be involved in a network of radicalism and terrorism.

If a member of a radical group is caught by the security forces, they are usually used as informants. They can be questioned as to the extent of their involvement in these radical and terrorist organizations. If it is revealed, it will be very good because further investigations into terrorist organizations in Indonesia can be carried out, and the eradication of radicalism and terrorism will also be easier.

In addition, it is also mandatory to ask several questions. Why are they trapped by radicalism? How do they infiltrate a prestigious organization like MUI? Whereas MUI is a strategic organization because it can issue fatwas for people’s lives, including deciding the halalness of a product.

Law enforcement officers are obliged to apply justice as fairly as possible to the two members of the radical group. Don’t take MUI members for granted and get privileged. Instead, they must be held accountable for their actions, because they have tarnished the face of the Bengkulu City MUI. Don’t let MUI become synonymous with radicalism because of them.

Don’t hesitate to punish them with the terrorism law, if indeed they are proven guilty. Every Indonesian citizen must obey the law, whether he is an ordinary civilian or a member of the MUI.

When there is a case like this, every organization, whether related to the government or not, must be investigated. Do not let any of its members get involved in radicalism and terrorism and instead spread it, either secretly or openly. This is not paranoia, but a way to prevent radicalism in Indonesia.

The arrest of 2 Bengkulu City MUI administrators for cases of radicalism was very surprising, because they were able to scheming and then enter the MUI easily, even since 2005. Further investigations must be carried out. Don’t let any other organization be poisoned by radicalism.
