Will The Former Rivals Meeting Change The Indonesia’s Political Movement?

Pertemuan Prabowo dengan Jokowi di Bogor

Former Rivals on Indonesian President election 2014, current Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Prabowo Subianto held a meeting in Presidential residence, on 29 January 2015. This is the first meeting between the two “Indonesian best people” since Mr. Jokowi formally elected as Indonesian President. No enmity impression seen in this meeting, replaced by warmth and humbled situation between them.

After that short meeting, Mr. Prabowo said that this meeting held as a response of Mr. Jokowi visit to his residence before presidential inauguration in 2014. Therefore, as a person who follows eastern culture he asked politely to Mr. President to meet him in the presidential residence. He also talks about his political attitudes by saying: “I conveyed my commitment to support all the executive efforts, we also work for developing the country, preseving the internity and fighting the poverty from outside.”

In the middle of a heated political situation in Indonesia these days, this meeting seemed to be a hope for a better situation. Particularly for President Jokowi who is facing great pressure on his leadership in case relating to the candidate of the Indonesian police leader, Budi Gunawan (BG) which also sparked a feud between police and KPK. Moreover, a lot of critics related to the lack of firm of Mr. Jokowi’s decision to end this conflict increases the impression that he is still under his party’s pressure, PDIP. “I believe that Mr. President will see people’s interests as a priority and he will make the best decision,” Prabowo said about BG’s case.

            Chief of DPP PDIP, Maruar Sirait says Mr. Jokowi and Mr. Prabowo’s attitude is a good example as a politician. This meeting can change Indonesia’s political movement and economy situation in the future. “And this is a good news for economy. Economy and politic are related each other, this situation means stability is guaranteed. When the leaders are harmonious, the citizens either. It indicates Indonesia’s economy will increase in 2015. I believe this meeting will also be apreciated by Indonesian entrepreuner,” he said.

Besides Mr. Prabowo, former Indonesian President B.J Habibie, also support President Jokowi to end BG’s case and KPK-POLRI conflict fast and wisely.
