Learning From Blocking Some Social Media

The 2019 election is an event for a democratic party that is not immunized from hoaxes and slander, a series of hate speeches so that in the end the politicization of places of worship will also color the implementation of the election.

This certainly makes Turn Back Hoax volunteers get more tasks than usual, because they have to review a story whether it is True or False or Disinformation.

The hoax news is not only just news, if the news is shared with the public, not a few will believe it, even making it increasingly antipathic towards certain candidates or parties.

Even though Indonesia has long lived in diversity and diversity, the swift flow of news hoaxes, especially on social media, is certainly very troubling, so the government needs to be strict in addressing this.

The Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security, Wiranto said that social media services will be temporarily deactivated. The action aims to avoid the spread of hoaxes or hoaxes.

“For a while, to avoid false news to the public. Access on social media is not activated to prevent that, negative things that can have an impact on society, “Wiranto said.

He explained that the government wanted the people to get accurate information. Because, Wiranto said that there was an attempt to fight in the community through false news in social media.

“Do not let us be fought so that friendship, our brotherhood in this fasting month has an effect,” said Wiranto.

The ITE Law also stipulates that video content containing provocative incitement and hate speech based on ethnicity, religion, race and inter-group (SARA) is content that violates the provisions of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning changes to the Law. 11 of 2008 concerning information and electronic transactions.

One of the habits of the Indonesian people is, like to neutralize something that tends to preach negative things, whether in the form of photos or videos. If the video or photo is distributed, the mastermind behind the riots will be even more pleased, because the desire to create fear in the community has succeeded.

The government’s step to temporarily block access to some social media is certainly one of the steps that can be taken, although it has an impact on the number of complaints from netizens who are impatient to send messages, or want to make buying and selling transactions.

In the action that was held on May 22, the riots could not be avoided, a mob of riotous actions rejected the vote recapitulation of the 2019 election announced by the KPU.

The action was apparently anticipated, because a number of parties had previously stated they would hold an action they called people power. Where the protest is often used to express rejection of an order.

In other parts of the world, it is not uncommon for these actions to end in chaos and even trigger a political crisis to the security of a region.

Like in Syria, where a civil war there was triggered by a dispute between the people and President Bashar Al-Assad. Syrians then demand democratic reform in their country.

Inspired by the Arab Spring movement in the Middle East, Syrian citizens held a large-scale demonstration against Assad’s government around mid-2011.

The civil war in Syria has also been exacerbated by the emergence of ISIS radical groups in 2014. At the beginning of its rise, ISIS had mastered a third of Syria’s territory. The presence of ISIS also led to the intervention of the United States and Syria in the civil war.

Of course we hope that Indonesia will not become chaotic because of the refusal action, the effort to block social media is certainly a policy that has been carefully considered for national conduciveness which still leaves the heat of political tension after the 2019 Election. The provider should also comply with government regulations and take care of national interests.

Restrictions on social media for the time being can certainly be handled wisely, first when sending letters is an exciting thing even though we have to wait for months, after social media is present, we are increasingly impatient in waiting for replies from the people we send messages.

Even fasting in social media, can also increase the quality time again with the family who might have drifted apart because each family member felt absorbed in their respective gadgets.
