Jakarta – Head of the Presidential Communication Office, Hasan Nasbi, reiterated the President’s instructions at the recent plenary cabinet meeting. It was stated that President Prabowo Subianto ordered his cabinet to eradicate drugs, online gambling, smuggling, and corruption in the country.
“The President emphasized that there are four important issues that we must not take lightly in addressing,” he said.
The war against drugs has become one of the main focuses, where massive drug circulation threatens society at various levels.
For this reason, strong synergy between the central and regional governments is key in protecting Indonesia from the dangers of narcotics.
President Prabowo also asked law enforcement to be firm without hesitation in handling these cases.
“Law enforcement must not hesitate to take firm action on these four matters,” Hasan asserted, quoting the President’s message.
In the Lampung region, known as one of the strategic routes for drug trafficking, concrete steps are also being taken as an embodiment of the President’s directives regarding drug eradication.
Lampung Police Chief, Inspector General Helmy Santika, mentioned the police’s real steps in fighting drugs with major revelations. One of them is the seizure of 159 kilograms of marijuana that was attempted to be smuggled through Bakauheni Port.
According to Helmy, this revelation is not only due to the hard work of the authorities but also community support.
“We are not joking about uncovering and continuously preventing and eradicating drug trafficking,” he said.
He added that Lampung, which is the main connector between Sumatra and Java, often becomes the route of choice for drug syndicates, thus requiring intensive cross-sector collaboration.
Meanwhile, the North Kalimantan Regional Police (Kaltara) uncovered 68 drug trafficking cases from August to October 2024. From these 68 cases, the police seized 150 kilograms of methamphetamine.
“The total evidence that has been successfully secured from the period of August to October is 150,393.21 grams or 150 kilograms,” said North Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Hary Sudwijanto in his statement, quoted Thursday (7/11/2024).
In this Joint Operation, the North Kalimantan Regional Police also involved the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) of North Kalimantan Province, the Navy, the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, and other agencies. One of the uncovered cases is the international network of HS.
“The HS network operates in 5 provinces covering the areas of North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, East Java, and Bali,” he revealed.
Of the 68 cases, at least 3 are prominent. The North Kalimantan Regional Police secured 82.9 kilograms of methamphetamine from 6 suspects.
The commitment conveyed by the central government and affirmed at the regional level is in line with the grand vision of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to create a drug-free Indonesia towards Golden Indonesia 2045.
With integrated steps between the central and regional governments and community support, drug circulation in Indonesia can be suppressed.
