The 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali is an important momentum for Indonesia in facing the challenges of water sustainability in the future. This forum is not only a forum for discussing global water issues, but also a valuable opportunity for Indonesia to attract sustainable investment in the water sector.
The presence of this forum creates a platform for Indonesia to show its potential as a country that is active in managing water resources. By showcasing initiatives related to sustainable water management and the latest technologies in this field, Indonesia can attract the attention of investors who are interested in contributing to the development of innovative solutions.
In addition, by hosting an event of this magnitude, Indonesia can strengthen its diplomatic network in the global water world. This could open the door to further collaboration with countries and international organizations that have similar interests in water management. This collaboration will not only create direct investment opportunities, but also expand Indonesia’s access to the latest knowledge and technology resources in water management.

The success of holding an event as large as WWF in Bali will also improve Indonesia’s image as a promising investment destination. By demonstrating its ability to organize large-scale international events, Indonesia can attract investors to invest in various economic sectors, including the water sector.
In this context, the Indonesian government needs to take advantage of the momentum from the 10th WWF event by developing a comprehensive strategy to attract investment in the water sector. Measures such as providing fiscal incentives, simplifying regulations and improving infrastructure will help create a conducive investment environment for investors.
On an occasion during the 10th WWF series, Indonesian President Joko Widodo invited American billionaire Elon Musk to expand his investment in Indonesia, which includes companies such as SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink and Boring. Regarding the ongoing Starlink collaboration, the President hopes that Starlink can synergize with internet providers in Indonesia to provide affordable internet access, prioritize consumer protection, and provide cheaper prices for the use of public services, including at community health centers and remote schools in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the Government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Kemen PUPR) explained that the 10th WWF had produced a number of achievements, especially in the investment sector. One of them is related to cooperation on 113 projects with a value of up to 9.4 billion US dollars or the same as IDR 150.4 trillion.
According to the Minister of PUPR, Basuki Hadimuljono, the projects included in the compendium are projects that are a mainstay for various countries. A number of these projects are projects to accelerate the provision of drinking water for 3 million households and domestic wastewater treatment projects for 300 thousand households.
It cannot be denied that the World Water Forum does open up investment opportunities. One interesting investment area is the development of clean water and sanitation infrastructure. The reason is, there are still many areas in Indonesia that do not have adequate access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities. Investment in well construction, drinking water supply systems and wastewater treatment will be urgently needed to meet the basic needs of the Indonesian population. The World Water Forum can be a platform for governments to present water infrastructure projects that are being planned and obtain financial support from the private sector and international financial institutions.
Apart from that, the World Water Forum can also strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and other countries in terms of water resources management. Indonesia has the potential to become a regional leader in water-related knowledge and technology exchange initiatives. Through collaboration with developed countries that have overcome similar challenges in water management, Indonesia can gain access to advanced technology and best practices that can be applied domestically. This will create investment opportunities in technology transfer and strategic partnerships between Indonesian companies and international partners.
Apart from that, investing in water ecosystem conservation can also be an attractive option for domestic investors. Healthy forests play an important role in maintaining water availability, regulating water systems, and protecting river watersheds from natural disasters such as floods and landslides. Through forest restoration and wetland rehabilitation programs, Indonesia can not only maintain the sustainability of water resources, but also improve environmental quality and support the local economy. The World Water Forum has proven to be a venue for promoting water conservation programs and attracting investors who care about the environment to participate in these efforts.
Overall, the 10th WWF event in Bali is not only a prestigious international event, but also a golden opportunity for Indonesia to raise its profile as a promising investment destination, especially in the water sector. By making good use of this momentum, Indonesia can make the water sector one of the driving forces of sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the future.
