Jakarta – In an atmosphere rich with meaning and hope, Jakarta witnessed the commencement of the 19th Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) on Wednesday (May 14).
In his opening remarks, President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, stated that the moment was a great honor for him and called on all participants of the 19th PUIC to take concrete actions toward peace and progress for the Islamic world.
“Today, I am speaking before representatives of the entire Muslim ummah around the world. Therefore, this is a great honor for me,” said the President.
He emphasized that the 1945 Constitution of Indonesia clearly mandates the nation to contribute to maintaining global order.
“This is the core foundation and guiding principle of Indonesia’s foreign policy,” Prabowo said.
The opening ceremony proceeded solemnly, attended by parliamentary representatives from across the Islamic world, united in a spirit of dialogue and cooperation grounded in universal humanitarian values.
Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, stated that the event was a great honor for Indonesia. She encouraged a renewed spirit of solidarity, peace, and cooperation in shaping a global order that benefits not only Muslims but all of humanity.
“Therefore, stronger commitment and solidarity are essential. There is no development without peace, and no peace without development,” said Puan Maharani.
Earlier, during the conference’s plenary session, Speaker of the National Assembly of Côte d’Ivoire, Adama Bictogo, officially handed over the PUIC presidency to Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani.
The 18th PUIC presidency was previously held by the Parliament of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.
“I hereby hand over the presidency of our organization to our esteemed sister and colleague, the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives. I congratulate her on the trust placed in her and wish her success in carrying out this mandate,” said Bictogo at the Nusantara Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (May 14).
The 19th PUIC Conference held in Jakarta marks a historic moment in the dynamics of parliamentary diplomacy within the Islamic world.
Bictogo expressed confidence that Indonesia could lead PUIC into a new phase marked by significant and positive transformation — both in organizational governance and in strengthening the role of parliaments from Islamic countries on the global stage.
“I believe her leadership will be marked by significant changes,” he stated.
