2025 Food Self-Sufficiency Achieved Faster During the Prabowo-Gibran Administration

Jakarta – The government has confirmed that Indonesia has achieved food self-sufficiency faster than the initial target during the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

This achievement was primarily supported by the success of rice self-sufficiency, along with increased national production and strengthening government reserves.

Since the beginning of his administration, President Prabowo has targeted achieving rice self-sufficiency within four years, or by 2028.

However, he is urging the Red and White Cabinet and all stakeholders to accelerate the target so that it can be achieved much faster.

“We are also now in the food sector; this is one of our achievements that is very encouraging for us. I gave us four years to return to rice self-sufficiency, and our food team has succeeded, God willing, and we can achieve self-sufficiency in one year,” said Prabowo.

In October 2025, the President revealed that national rice production from January to October 2025 had reached 31,038,197 tons. According to him, this figure was the highest production in Indonesian history and served as the basis for accelerating the food self-sufficiency target.

“This is the highest production in the history of the Republic of Indonesia. So, yes, we can hold our heads high with honor. I gave them a four-year target, and they achieved it in one year,” said Prabowo.

Besides production, Prabowo also highlighted the strengthening of the government’s rice reserves. He stated that rice reserves in the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) warehouses had reached 4.2 million tons in June 2025, the highest level in national history.

“We also now have government rice reserves in Bulog warehouses reaching 4.2 million tons in June 2025, also the highest in the history of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.

Previously, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that food self-sufficiency status would be announced in early January 2026.

He stated that rice production throughout 2025 is projected to reach 34.79 million tons, an increase of 4.17 million tons, with national rice stocks of around 3.7 million tons.***
