Aceh – The Aceh Provincial Government, together with the central government, continues to strengthen synergy with the community in addressing the impacts of floods and landslides that have struck several areas in Aceh. The main focus is on accelerating the rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructure so that the social and economic lives of residents can gradually and sustainably recover.
Aceh Regional Secretary M. Nasir stated that the floods and landslides have caused significant damage to various vital infrastructures, ranging from roads and bridges to clean water networks and public facilities. According to him, the damage has not only had physical impacts but has also affected social activities and the local economy in affected areas that depend on these access routes and basic services.
M. Nasir explained that the Aceh Government has handled the disaster through a six-cluster system, from Emergency Response Phase I to Phase II. This approach is intended to ensure that every stage of disaster management is coordinated and integrated. He also emphasized that support from the central government is a crucial factor in enabling rehabilitation and reconstruction to proceed more quickly and in a measurable manner.
“We hope that concrete steps can be formulated and immediately implemented in the field, so that post-disaster recovery can proceed swiftly, accurately, and sustainably,” said M. Nasir.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) stated that the central government has been present since the emergency response phase, including when several affected areas were still isolated due to disrupted land access. Under such conditions, aid distribution was carried out via air routes while simultaneously accelerating the reopening of land access.
“Heavy equipment must immediately break through cut-off road points so that logistics distribution can run smoothly again,” AHY said.
He added that the Ministry of Public Works will continue to be encouraged to accelerate road reopening, the restoration of basic infrastructure, and the provision of clean water for affected communities. In addition, the government is committed to rebuilding residents’ homes, including relocating them to areas that are safer from disaster risks.
On the other hand, Member of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Ujang Bey expressed confidence in national capacity to handle disasters in Aceh.
“The government still has confidence in its ability to handle the flood problems in Aceh,” he said.
Ujang Bey added that the absence of a green light regarding foreign assistance indicates that the government has made careful calculations and possesses the capability to address all existing challenges, while urging the government to continue moving quickly and simultaneously to meet the needs of affected communities.
