Aceh’s Infrastructure Recovery Praised, Residents Call for Unity Without GAM

Aceh Tamiang – The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), confirmed that post-disaster recovery in Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province, has entered the accelerated reconstruction phase. Basic infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, is a top priority to support the recovery of community activities.

“After the disaster emergency response, reconstruction will be at the forefront. This means infrastructure will be very dominant,” said Coordinating Minister AHY.

Coordinating Minister AHY emphasized the importance of accelerating the deployment of heavy equipment to priority locations to expedite construction work. He stated that restoring road and bridge access is crucial for smooth logistics distribution and public mobility.

On a separate occasion, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi expressed the President’s appreciation to all parties involved in disaster management. Furthermore, the Minister of State Secretary also encouraged the public to welcome the new year 2026 with optimism.

“Once again, he [President Prabowo] expressed his gratitude to all those who have worked hard, volunteers, and the entire community. Hopefully, in this new year, we can overcome all these problems and all these trials so that we can return to living our lives as best we can,” he concluded.

Amidst the recovery process, several parties have reminded the importance of maintaining stability and unity among the Acehnese people.

Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dave Laksono, urged all elements of society not to be provoked by divisive agendas. He emphasized that the main focus now is accelerating recovery and reviving Aceh’s economy after the disaster.

Meanwhile, the Student President of UIN Alauddin Makassar, Muh. Zulhamdi Suhafid, condemned the raising of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) flag during the disaster. He considered the action a form of provocation that could potentially disrupt national unity.

“This is not about a flag being flown, this is about national dignity. The raising of the GAM flag is a threat to sovereignty. The state must not remain silent,” Zulhamdi asserted.

He warned that the issue of separatism is not a trivial matter and could reopen the wounds of past conflicts in Aceh.

“Indonesian unity is non-negotiable. Aceh is a legitimate part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” he concluded.
