Ahead of Ramadan, the Government is finalizing infrastructure preparations for the 2026 Eid homecoming season

Jakarta – The government has begun finalizing infrastructure and transportation services ahead of Ramadan and the 2026 Eid homecoming season. Various strategic measures are being prepared to ensure smooth public mobility, maintain purchasing power, and control inflation during the long holiday period, which is expected to begin in March 2026.

One of the government’s primary focuses is preparing an economic stimulus program. This stimulus includes discounts on intermodal transportation, toll fees, and the distribution of social assistance. This policy is expected to help people meet their travel needs while maintaining national economic stability.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the government has prepared several incentives to welcome the Eid al-Fitr homecoming period. He stated that the surge in public mobility during Eid needs to be balanced with policies that reduce travel costs.

“In preparation for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr holiday, several programs have been prepared, including discounts on transportation, including flights, trains, sea transportation, land transportation, and toll roads,” Airlangga said.

In addition to economic stimulus, transportation infrastructure readiness is also a serious concern. The Ministry of Transportation, through the Directorate General of Sea Transportation, continues to refine the readiness of its maritime fleet to handle the expected increase in passenger and vehicle numbers during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026.

Alwan Rasyid, Head of the Sub-Directorate for Ship Measurement, Registration, and Nationality at the Directorate General of Sea Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, explained that various efforts have been made to ensure safe and comfortable navigation. These efforts include inspecting ships’ seaworthiness, crew readiness, and port facilities and infrastructure in various regions of Indonesia.

“In general, the Ministry of Transportation has prepared a number of state vessels to anticipate a surge in passengers in various regions of Indonesia,” said Alwan.

He added that increased supervision and inspections are part of routine activities being intensified ahead of the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr sea transportation periods. This is crucial given the potential for a significant surge in passengers, particularly in island regions.

Alwan also urged the public to plan their trips well in advance. He believes proper planning will help ensure ship operations remain within their designated capacity, thus ensuring safe sailing.

As an additional precautionary measure, the Ministry of Transportation is open to granting certain dispensations in accordance with applicable regulations. “The dispensations will be implemented selectively while prioritizing the principles of passenger safety, security, and comfort,” said Alwan.

With these various preparations, the government hopes that the 2026 Eid homecoming (mudik) will proceed safely, smoothly, and orderly, providing a sense of comfort for people celebrating Eid al-Fitr with their families in their hometowns. (*)
