Agriculture in Aceh has great potential which has not yet been fully exploited. This region is rich in natural resources and fertile land, but many young people are still reluctant to enter the agricultural sector. In facing global challenges and increasing food needs, agricultural modernization is a solution that must be implemented immediately. In an effort to explore this potential, Aneuk Muda Aceh Unggul Besar (AMANAH) has taken important steps in inviting Aceh’s young generation to develop the modern agricultural sector.
AMANAH has held various programs and activities aimed at changing negative views towards agriculture. One of the prominent activities was a talk show entitled “AMANAH AGRO TALK: The Benefits of Farming Like Millennial Farmers” which was held on July 2 2024 at Teuku Umar University (UTU), Meulaboh, West Aceh Regency. This talk show aims to provide insight and motivation to young people about modern agriculture. This talk show was hosted by Afla Nadya and presented a number of speakers from various backgrounds who are competent in the agricultural sector.
Speakers who attended this event included Vicky Shu, Millennial Farmer Ambassador from the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, Sandi Octa Susila, Chair of the Aceh Farmers Market Forum Benni Baihaqi, Marzuki, Aceh Province Regional Coordinator Millennial Farmer Ambassador, and Haris, Young Ambassador of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Yess 2024 Program R.I. They shared knowledge and experience regarding the importance of quality in agricultural products, smart farming, and effective branding strategies.
Marzuki explained the concept of smart farming or a smart farming system that uses advanced technology to increase efficiency and productivity. This technology allows farmers to manage their land more effectively and remotely. This is very relevant for millennial farmers who are familiar with the use of technology in everyday life. Benni Baihaqi added that strong branding will make products better known and in demand by the market. With the right branding strategy, agricultural products can compete in local and international markets.
Sandi Octa Susila expressed his appreciation for AMANAH’s initiative in holding this program. He sees this activity as an important step in developing the soft skills and hard skills of young farmers. The construction of the Aceh Youth Creative Hub or Aneuk Muda Aceh Unggul Besar (AMANAH) Central Building is one of the efforts to facilitate the development of human resource (HR) and natural resource (SDA) potential in Aceh. This building was built on 5 hectares of land with various facilities that support the creativity and innovation of young Acehnese people.
The AMANAH building is not just a physical building, but is also an Aceh-based creativity center that provides training, workshops, MSME incubators, collaboration spaces, art galleries and exhibitions, technology centers, environmental-based creative programs, cultural and artistic activities, as well as partnerships and networks. With these various facilities, AMANAH is expected to be a catalyst for progress in various sectors, including agriculture, fisheries and technology.
With the facilities and support provided by AMANAH, it is hoped that the young generation of Aceh can see the agricultural sector as a promising opportunity. Agricultural modernization through advanced technology and effective marketing strategies is the key to increasing the competitiveness of Aceh’s agricultural products in local and international markets. Modern agriculture is not only about increasing production, but also about maintaining environmental sustainability and improving farmer welfare.
AMANAH’s initiative in inviting Acehnese youth to develop the modern agricultural sector is a very positive step. With the right approach, modern agriculture can be an attractive and promising career choice for the younger generation. It is hoped that programs like this will continue to be promoted so that they can give birth to a new and innovative generation of farmers for the progress of Aceh and Indonesia as a whole.
The approach taken by AMANAH by combining technological knowledge and modern agricultural practices is expected to increase the interest of the younger generation in this sector. Apart from that, with support from various parties, such as the Ministry of Agriculture and the millennial farming community, agricultural potential in Aceh can develop optimally. The AMANAH building which is equipped with various supporting facilities is also an important factor in creating an ecosystem that is conducive to the growth of the modern agricultural sector in Aceh.
In facing the digital era, modern agriculture has become very relevant to answer the challenges and needs of an ever-growing market. The use of technology such as soil sensors, drones and automated irrigation systems can increase agricultural efficiency and productivity. Apart from that, a strong digital marketing and branding strategy is also needed to reach a wider market. In this way, Aceh’s agricultural products can have high competitiveness at national and international levels.
Finally, the active participation of the younger generation in developing the modern agricultural sector is very important. Support and initiatives from various parties, such as AMANAH, can be the main driver in changing the paradigm and maximizing existing potential. With enthusiasm and hard work, it is hoped that Aceh’s agriculture can achieve significant progress and make a major contribution to community welfare and national food security.
