Appreciating the Government’s Fast Action to Fight Corruption

The government continues to move quickly in eradicating corruption. The public appreciates the government’s firm commitment because apart from harming the state, corruption is an extraordinary crime that afflicts the people.

The government will not play around with corruption cases, Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) Moeldoko emphasized that President Joko Widodo’s commitment to eradicating corruption has never changed until now.

According to him, the Head of State always reminds his staff not to get involved in activities that are detrimental to the state. The former TNI commander said that one form of President Jokowi’s commitment is impartiality or even defending if his staff is proven to be involved in corruption.

President Jokowi has also ensured that the government never plays games in its efforts to eradicate corruption. He emphasized that eradicating corruption must be prioritized. This is because a productive and innovative national ecosystem will not grow without conducive legal, political, cultural and educational aspects.

Therefore, he assesses the need to increase efforts to prevent corruption through simple, transparent and efficient governance. The law must also be enforced indiscriminately. All existing policies must also prioritize aspects of being environmentally friendly and protecting human rights.

In order to realize the creation of Clean Government, Jokowi had reminded that there should be no more bribing between government officials and businessmen in the business permit process. Jokowi emphasized that business permits must be carried out transparently and make it easier for entrepreneurs.

On Jokowi’s occasion at the launch of the online single submission system at the Jakarta BPKM Office, Jokowi said that he did not want to hear about the difficulties faced by entrepreneurs, nor did he want anyone to take bribes, so everything must be done openly and transparently.

The former mayor of Surakarta also emphasized that if there are officers who are not clean, please report them to him. Jokowi has also emphasized that state officials should be able to create a system that closes the gap in the occurrence of corruption in the use of the state budget, both for the state budget and provincial, district and city budgets.

He also said firmly not to protect those involved in corruption cases and the government will continue to consistently support efforts to prevent and eradicate corruption.

Previously, the former chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Antasari Azhar also mentioned that the efforts to prevent corruption in the Jokowi era when he was with Jusuf Kalla were felt.

According to Antasari Azhar, the prevention of corruption in the era of the Joko Widodo (Jokowi) administration is increasingly felt because of the increase in public services that are increasingly clean from abusive practices. According to him, the public can directly see and monitor the ongoing development process. On the other hand, he also saw an increasing role of the community in development.

The increasing role of the community is also heavily influenced by the media in raising issues in the field. Thus, public participation in reducing corruption in the field of public services is also getting higher, so that the officers and bureaucrats who are responsible for these matters will also work more professionally.

On the other hand, former KPK spokesman Johan Budi Sapto Prabowo also said that one of the most important aspects of President Jokowi’s efforts to improve public services is to increase the effectiveness of the use of the state budget. According to Johan, the basic thing is that President Jokowi places institutions such as the KPK as the central spearhead.

Meanwhile, efforts to eradicate corruption can also be seen from the Jokowi administration’s efforts to formulate the Job Creation Law. Law expert from Padjadjaran University Professor Romli Atmasasmita assessed that the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Law was able to prevent potential corruption at the bureaucratic level. This can be seen from the law’s efforts to cut licensing in investment.

Romli considered that the Job Creation Law had simplified a long procedure. So that opportunities for rogue officials and bureaucrats will certainly be difficult to do. This will make a number of parties angry so that they reject the Job Creation Act.

He said that so far, many developments have been hampered by the actions of a few people who were caught in a sting operation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Romli suspects that this is the reason why the licensing process was finally cut and accelerated.

Efforts to eradicate corruption, of course, must involve many parties, including the apparatus and the community. The key is transparency and mutual supervision.
