Jakarta – In the ten years of President Joko Widodo’s leadership, Indonesia has continued to consistently fight for the rights of the Palestinian people in various international forums as part of its commitment to world peace. Through Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Indonesia has actively voiced its condemnation of the violence committed by Israel and asked the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to be more effective in creating world peace, especially in the Palestinian region.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi expressed Indonesia’s view regarding the inability of the UN Security Council to handle the protracted crisis in Palestine. There is a need for a more democratic mechanism in decision making in international organizations.
“Indonesia calls for a more democratic mechanism for effective decision-making, to avoid inactivity amidst serious threats to international peace and security,” he stressed.
In his speech, he reminded the world that more than 41 thousand lives had been lost and millions of Palestinians had been forced to flee due to ongoing aggression. This situation should be a reflection for the international community to act more firmly in stopping violence.
Retno emphasized that Indonesia’s struggle for Palestinian independence is not just a moral stance, but is also part of efforts to achieve world peace. On various occasions, Retno reminded that the violence experienced by Palestine is not something that can be normalized. “Violence and aggression like this must not become a new normal,” said Retno firmly.
During the decade of President Jokowi’s leadership, Indonesia has always placed the Palestinian issue as a priority agenda in its foreign diplomacy. Since President Jokowi’s meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the start of his administration, until now, Indonesia has consistently voiced the rights of the Palestinian people.
President Jokowi’s leadership which focuses on international peace and justice has made Indonesia one of the loudest voices in fighting for Palestinian rights in global forums.
With the full support of President Jokowi, the active diplomacy carried out by Retno Marsudi not only strengthens Indonesia’s position as a defender of human rights, but also confirms Indonesia’s commitment to realizing just and sustainable world peace. In Indonesia’s view, peace in the Middle East, especially in Palestine, is the key to broader global stability.
Indonesia’s consistency in supporting Palestinian independence under President Jokowi’s leadership is proof that peaceful diplomacy can be a powerful tool in creating change at the international level.
These ten years of support are a reflection of Indonesia’s determination to not only defend Palestine, but also realize a more inclusive and just world peace.
