Jakarta – Head of BIN, General Pol (ret.) Prof. Dr. Budi Gunawan, SH., M.Si., Ph.D., was re-elected as the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Esports Executive Board (PB ESI).
So far, E-sports has shown significant development, where with the ecosystem that has been formed, Indonesia has succeeded in changing the negative views of society about games.
This was stated by the Head of BIN, General Pol (ret.) Prof. Dr. Budi Gunawan, SH., M.Si., Ph.D, at the National Sports Conference (Musornas) and National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) of the Indonesian Esports Executive Board or PB ESI 2024, in Jakarta, Sunday (06/10)
“The global reach of e-sports is currently growing very rapidly, the latest data shows that the e-sports audience has reached more than 577 million people in 2024,” said BIN Chief Budi Gunawan.
Budi Gunawan said that during the 2020-2024 PBESI management period, many achievements and accomplishments had been achieved, both at the national and international levels.
“Currently, there are 84 high schools with e-sports extracurricular activities and 19 universities with e-sports SMEs. Which will be a favorite extracurricular activity for Gen-Z and Gen-Alpha,” he said.
According to the Head of BIN, another thing that is worth being proud of is that amidst global geopolitical tensions, E-sports has played a unifying role.
“The e-sports community has united various cultures and backgrounds in one platform and created a new form of entertainment for the young generation of Indonesia that is connected to the global youth community,” said Budi Gunawan.
Since the presence of the Indonesian Esports Executive Board (PBESI), which is a sports organization and a forum for Indonesian esports athletes, there have been many changes and developments in the esports ecosystem in Indonesia.
Especially during the PBESI management era since being inaugurated in 2020, chaired by Budi Gunawan.
On the same occasion, Deputy General Chairperson 3 of KONI, Major General TNI Ret. Andri Sutarno said that as the general chairman of the central KONI, he expressed his highest appreciation and respect to PBESI who had jointly made the 21st Aceh North Sumatra National Sports Week a success in 2024.
“I express my highest appreciation and gratitude to Mr. Budi Gunawan and his staff, especially the Indonesian Sport Executive Board for the first term of office. Who have greatly advanced the history of sports in the country,” he said.
He hopes that with this National Conference and National Coordination Meeting, it will produce a management that can continue Indonesia’s esports achievements.
The leadership of General Pol (ret.) Prof. Dr. Budi Gunawan, SH., M.Si., Ph.D. during his time as the General Chair of PBESI, has been proven to be very successful by bringing many achievements that have been made by the Indonesian Esports Team on the world stage.
Expert Staff for Sports Culture of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ir. Hamka Hendra Noer, M.Si. said that Esports has made a special history for the Indonesian nation.
