The general chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), criticized President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who was considered more concerned with infrastructure development than human resource development (HR).
The son of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) stated that the government’s development focus should not override human resource development. The human development index is considered necessary to continue to be improved in line with infrastructure development.
In fact, data from the Central Statistics Agency, the HDI trend during President Jokowi’s administration was recorded to have continued to increase. National HDI records continue to improve every year. In his first year in office in 2014, the national HDI rate was recorded at 68.9 percent.
This record was successfully increased in 2015 to 69.55 percent in 2015 and 70.18 percent in 2016. Even though it did not increase significantly, Jokowi continued to increase the national HDI in 2017 to 70.81 percent, and 71.39 percent in 2018, and 71 .94 percent at the end of his first term in 2019.
After consistently increasing HDI in his first 5 years of administration, Jokowi continued to increase HDI in 2020 to 71.94 percent and in 2021 to 72.29 percent, and 72.91 percent in 2022.
Meanwhile, based on human development report data released by the United Nation Development Program (UNDP) in 2021, Indonesia is still included in a country with medium human development with a rating of 114.
However, the UNDP report explains that Indonesia’s HDI trend from 2010–2021 has achieved quite good results. Indonesia’s HDI managed to climb 3 ranks in that period.
