BSU 2025 Strengthens Workers’ Purchasing Power Amid Global Turmoil

Jakarta — The Indonesian government continues to demonstrate its commitment to protecting workers’ purchasing power and welfare amid ongoing global economic uncertainty. Through the distribution of the 2025 Wage Subsidy Assistance (BSU), the government seeks to provide an effective social safety net, particularly for low-income workers affected by global economic pressures and challenges in the national labor sector.

The 2025 BSU program is distributed through the Ministry of Manpower, in collaboration with the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration, as well as the Ministry of Industry. BSU aims to ease the economic burden on low-income workers, helping them cope with rising living costs and basic needs.

Minister of Manpower, Yassierli, stated that the BSU program represents the state’s commitment to supporting the livelihoods of formal sector workers in rural areas and industrial zones.

“We want to ensure that village officials and factory workers, who serve as the backbone of public services and production, continue to receive government support during these uncertain economic times,” he said.

This program is also expected to strengthen the purchasing power of rural communities and workers, offering a concrete solution to growing social pressures.

In addition, through the BSU policy, the government aims to maintain the purchasing power of low-income communities amid current global and domestic economic challenges.

“This policy will have a direct impact as the assistance is provided straight to the beneficiaries,” said Moh. Faisal, Executive Director of CORE Indonesia.

Faisal also emphasized that the assistance is crucial in safeguarding workers’ purchasing power, particularly as food prices and other basic needs experience seasonal increases.

BSU 2025 is positioned as part of the government’s short- and medium-term strategy to stabilize workers’ household economies amid challenges including commodity price fluctuations, geopolitical tensions, and an uneven global economic recovery. By strengthening the purchasing power of vulnerable worker groups, the program is expected to boost domestic consumption, a key driver of national economic growth.

The implementation of BSU 2025 reflects the country’s adaptive policy approach to global dynamics while maintaining a balance between economic growth and equitable welfare distribution. In times of global uncertainty, social protection-based strategies have proven to be a resilient foundation for sustainable economic development. Prioritizing workers’ welfare is seen not only as a moral obligation but also as a productive and sustainable development strategy.
