Community Elements Support President Prabowo’s Commitment to Eradicate Corruption

Jakarta – Support for Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to eradicating corruption continues to flow from various elements of society. One of the concrete steps highlighted is the President’s support for the acceleration of discussion and ratification of the Asset Confiscation Bill (RUU).

President Prabowo conveyed this openly in his speech while commemorating International Workers’ Day at the National Monument (Monas) Field, Central Jakarta, Thursday (1/5/2025). On that occasion, the Head of State emphasized that the government will not tolerate corruptors, especially those who are unwilling to return the proceeds of their crimes.

“In the context of eradicating corruption, I support the Asset Confiscation Law,” President Prabowo emphasized in his speech which was greeted with applause from thousands of people in attendance.

According to President Prabowo, the ratification of the Asset Confiscation Bill is crucial to support the effectiveness of law enforcement, as well as ensuring that perpetrators of corruption are not only punished criminally, but must also lose all assets resulting from their crimes.

The President’s move received a positive response from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). KPK Spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika stated that the KPK fully supports the government’s move in implementing an impoverishment policy against corruptors.

“This form of impoverishment certainly needs to be made a law. What kind of law it will be, we also need to discuss with law enforcers, both from the judiciary, executive, and legislative sides,” said Tessa.

According to Tessa, the concept of impoverishing corruptors is one of the effective strategies in returning state losses and providing a deterrent effect. She also said that this step is in accordance with the hopes of the people who long for a clean government system free from corrupt practices.

Not only state institutions, support for the President’s steps also came from academics. Professor of the Faculty of Law, Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) Yogyakarta, Mahfud MD, expressed his appreciation for President Prabowo’s commitment.

“I appreciate President Prabowo’s role in eradicating corruption. This is a form of the country’s seriousness in handling extraordinary crimes that not only harm state finances, but also damage public trust in the government,” Mahfud said.

Mahfud also emphasized that the President’s speech must be followed by real action through systematic policies and the involvement of all stakeholders so that the spirit of eradicating corruption does not stop at the discourse level.

The Asset Confiscation Bill itself has long been awaited by the public as one of the legal solutions in confiscating and returning embezzled state assets. With the support of the President, it is hoped that the legislative process can run faster and become a strong legal basis for efforts to impoverish corruptors.
