Jakarta – The government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing convenience for the public through a 17-18 percent discount on airline tickets for the 2026 Eid homecoming. This policy demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting the tradition of homecoming, ensuring it can be enjoyed by more people comfortably and affordably. With this subsidy, the government not only reduces transportation costs but also strengthens national connectivity and ensures a joyful Eid celebration with family back home.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartanto, stated that the airline ticket discounts will be particularly beneficial for those planning to return home, as the government will cover the full VAT.
“The actual (airline) ticket discount will be around 17-18 percent, with the VAT covered by the government. Last Christmas, the government only covered 6 percent VAT, but for this Eid homecoming, the full VAT is applied,” Airlangga said when met at his office.
According to Airlangga, the technical regulations related to this policy are currently being drafted and are expected to be finalized next week through a Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK). This aims to ensure fair and targeted policy implementation.
He also added that in addition to airline ticket discounts, the government will provide a flexible work policy in the form of Work From Anywhere (WFA), which will take effect ahead of Eid al-Fitr. This policy aims to increase public mobility and boost the Indonesian economy.
“We are preparing a stimulus, and perhaps we will push it ahead of the fasting month,” he added.
As part of the economic stimulus for the period February to March 2026, the government has allocated a budget of IDR 12.83 trillion, which includes transportation discounts, social assistance, and toll road toll reductions.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transportation has also relaunched the free homecoming bus program for Eid al-Fitr 2026. This program is a continuation of the success of the free homecoming program during the previous Eid al-Fitr and Christmas periods.
The Acting Secretary of the Directorate General of Land Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Ernita Titis Dewi, explained that thousands of travelers will be transported by hundreds of buses prepared by the government.
“This year’s free homecoming program is prepared for thousands of travelers. The fleet of buses available reaches hundreds of buses,” said Ernita.
The Ministry of Transportation is also ensuring the readiness of transportation facilities and infrastructure for the homecoming trip, with a primary focus on travel safety. Inspections or ramp checks of public transportation vehicles will be conducted to ensure all vehicles meet technical and administrative standards.
“We want to ensure that people using public transportation can feel calm, safe, and comfortable during their journey,” said the Director of Road Transportation Facilities and Safety, Yusuf Nugroho.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Transportation is implementing a digital Terminal on System (TOS) system at 115 type A terminals to monitor vehicle inspection status online, making the ramp check process more effective and efficient. The government hopes that these policies will make the 2026 Eid homecoming trip safer, more comfortable, and more affordable for the public.
