Farmers’ Organizations Strengthen National Food Self-Sufficiency Program and Support Farmers’ Welfare

Jakarta – The Chairman of the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI), Fadli Zon, emphasized that the existence of farmers’ organizations such as HKTI plays a strategic role in strengthening Indonesia’s national food self-sufficiency program and enhancing the welfare of farmers across the country.

“This aligns with the leadership of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, who once served as Chairman of HKTI from 2004 to 2014 and currently acts as Chairman of HKTI’s Advisory Board,” said Fadli in an official statement.

Fadli stated that President Prabowo’s commitment to the agricultural sector confirms that food self-sufficiency is a top priority in Indonesia’s national development agenda.

With 52 years of existence, HKTI is recognized for its longstanding experience in representing millions of farmers throughout Indonesia. Fadli noted that over the past eight months, the agricultural sector has received serious attention under the leadership of the Minister of Agriculture, the Vice Minister, and the Ministry’s entire team.

Several strategic policies have been implemented, including:

  • Elimination of farmers’ past debts
  • Setting the Government Purchasing Price (HPP) for unhusked rice at IDR 6,500 per kilogram
  • Implementation of a targeted fertilizer subsidy based on accuracy in distribution, pricing, and quantity

Additionally, the Makmur, Berdaulat, and Gotong Royong (MBG) program is seen as providing golden opportunities for farmers across various sectors.

Fadli also remarked that the recent reunification of HKTI, which had been fragmented for the past 15 years, is an important step to strengthen synergy in the pursuit of farmers’ advancement in Indonesia.

“HKTI is expected to grow stronger, farmers more prosperous, and Indonesia will be able to realize its goals of rice self-sufficiency, stunting reduction, and accelerated agricultural development,” said Fadli.

On the same occasion, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman expressed hope that HKTI’s new leadership would support President Prabowo’s policies, including those related to downstream processing (hilirisasi), free nutritious meal programs, and biofuel energy resilience.

“We sincerely hope that Indonesia will become a global food barn on the path to Golden Indonesia 2045, and that HKTI will support these programs for the welfare of all Indonesians,” Andi Amran stated.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Gerindra Party Regional Leadership Council (DPD) for Jambi Province, Sutan Adil Hendra (SAH), expressed optimism that Indonesia’s food self-sufficiency efforts would become stronger under President Prabowo’s administration.

“HKTI also played a key role during Indonesia’s first achievement of food self-sufficiency in 1984. That’s why we are confident that under President Prabowo, food self-sufficiency will become even more robust,” SAH concluded
