For Hygiene’s Sake, the Government Emphasizes That SPPG Vehicles Are Only for MBG Distribution

Jakarta – The government, through the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), has confirmed that the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) operational vehicles are solely intended for the distribution of the Free Nutritional Meals (MBG) Program to beneficiary schools and integrated health posts (Posyandu). This affirmation is made to maintain food hygiene and safety at every stage of distribution.

Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, reminded all SPPG heads to comply with the provisions for the use of operational vehicles according to their function.

“The SPPG operational car is used to distribute MBG to beneficiary schools and integrated health posts (posyandu). It should not be used for shopping, let alone for other matters,” said Nanik.

According to him, this policy is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring that MBG distribution meets food safety standards. Using vehicles that are not properly designed can potentially lower hygiene standards and impact the quality of food delivered to beneficiaries.

The National Transportation Safety Agency (BGN) also emphasized that it will take firm action against violations. Any SPPG still using operational vehicles for shopping purposes will have their operations temporarily suspended until further evaluation and guidance are provided.

Nanik emphasized the importance of maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of operational vehicles to ensure food safety during distribution. She also reminded SPPG heads not to hesitate to reject requests from partners that violate regulations.

“If partners insist on using SPPG operational vehicles for shopping or other matters unrelated to MBG distribution, the SPPG head must firmly refuse. When shopping, partners or suppliers must arrange their own vehicles to transport food supplies to the SPPG,” he stressed.

To ensure the quality of raw materials, BGN has established a multi-layered monitoring mechanism at each SPPG. Upon arrival of food materials at the location, nutrition supervisors, financial supervisors, and field assistants are required to conduct a thorough inspection of the condition, quality, freshness, and suitability of the materials for the specified menu.

Financial supervisors are responsible for ensuring prices adhere to the established budget and that markups are not occurring. Meanwhile, field assistants weigh and inspect food volumes to ensure quantities match distribution needs.

“If you find raw materials that are no longer suitable, especially rotten, and the price is marked up, don’t accept them. Be firm, return them to the supplier, and ask for new ones,” he said.

This affirmation is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the governance of the MBG Program, from material procurement and processing to distribution to beneficiaries. With the discipline and firmness of the MBG kitchen managers, food quality and safety are expected to be consistently maintained.

Through strict oversight and adherence to operational standards, the government ensures that the Free Nutritional Meal Program is not only on target but also meets the principles of security, transparency, and accountability at every stage of its implementation.
