Foreign Political Observer: Indonesia is Currently in the Global Geopolitical Mainstream

Jakarta – Indonesia has been entrusted with the position of Deputy Commander in the International Stabilization Force (ISF) as part of the Board of Peace (BoP) initiative to support Palestinian stabilization and reconstruction efforts, particularly in Gaza.

Foreign policy observer and founder of the Freedom Institute, Rizal Mallarangeng, views this trust as a great honor and confirmation that Indonesia is now in the mainstream of global geopolitics.

“Frankly, I must say that from a height of 10,000 feet above India, I convey my hopes and greetings, we were given the opportunity to be deputy commanders,” he said on his way back to Indonesia after attending the BoP Summit in Washington DC, last Saturday (21/2).

He stated that the position of Deputy Commander of the ISF demonstrates recognition of Indonesia’s capabilities and credibility in carrying out global peacekeeping missions. He emphasized that Indonesia’s involvement is concrete, not merely symbolic.

“This is extraordinary. This is a concrete international role, in accordance with constitutional mandates—free, active, and contributing to world peace. It is an honor for our nation to do this,” he added.

This appointment is also seen as a direct implementation of the principle of an independent and active foreign policy, as mandated by the constitution. The public is encouraged to view this participation as a strategic step worthy of support, capable of generating positive impacts.

“The most important thing now is not to be cynical or constantly wrong. Instead, we should be optimistic and proud that Indonesia is a respected country, given a high place to participate in helping our brothers and sisters in need in Gaza and Palestine,” he explained.

Rizal emphasized that the essence of the BoP’s formation lies in the courage to take a path beyond conventional methods. This new approach focuses on long-term stability and comprehensive regional reconstruction.

“We should be proud of our courage to participate in this groundbreaking new system. This is an effort to find lasting peace and rebuild Palestine,” said Rizal.

With this mandate, Indonesia is seen as further strengthening its role as an active actor in maintaining global stability and peace. In the Peace Board forum, Indonesia is not merely an additional participant, but a key initiator.

“We’re not marginal players. We’re on the table. That means we’re not on the menu; we’re active participants,” he said.

The BoP introduced a more structured and concrete scheme than previous efforts. This plan included planned regional development, the establishment of a police force , and the administration of a task force aimed at stabilizing the area.

“The existing system has proven unsustainable. It has been in place for over 100 years. Let’s try new methods and give this process a fair chance,” he concluded.
