From Education to Housing, the Government Accompanies Aceh’s Recovery

Aceh — The central government, together with the Aceh Provincial Government, continues to assist residents in recovering from the impacts of floods and landslides that struck several areas of Aceh in December 2025.

This assistance is being carried out in an integrated manner through the distribution of logistical aid, restoration of basic services, strengthening of education, as well as economic support and housing assistance for affected families.

One clear example of the government’s seriousness in providing assistance was demonstrated directly by President Prabowo Subianto in his capacity as Head of State.

He visited the disaster-affected areas in person to conduct inspections and ensure that disaster response efforts were being properly implemented.

In the education sector, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has taken proactive steps by directly accompanying school communities in affected areas, including Aceh Tamiang.

The Director General of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, and Secondary Education, Gogot Suharwoto, accompanied the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, to ensure that the education recovery process proceeds in a sustainable manner.

The government has distributed emergency education assistance, learning equipment, and operational support for schools so that teaching and learning activities can resume as soon as possible.

“We are present to accompany the recovery process—listening to the stories of school principals and teachers,” he said.

“We have also distributed assistance, prepared temporary learning spaces, and ensured that children continue to receive their right to learn properly and safely,” Director General Gogot stated in Aceh Tamiang on Tuesday (9/12/2025).

He emphasized that the government’s attention remains firm even though recovery is taking place gradually.

“Recovery may not yet be complete, but the government ensures that children’s right to proper education remains a top priority,” he stressed.

Assistance also extends to economic recovery and the agricultural sector.

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that aid under the Kementan Peduli program was distributed as a form of concern from ministry employees and strategic partners to help ease the burden on affected communities.

“All assistance is monitored until it arrives on the ground, complete with photo reports, quantities, and types of items received,” he explained.

“So, my brothers and sisters, do not hesitate—we ensure that everything runs transparently and safely,” he added.

“The disasters that occurred in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra are a test for all of us, and this assistance is a form of care for our brothers and sisters in Sumatra,” Minister Amran said.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has strengthened social protection for flood victims in East Aceh.

Head of BNPB RI Suharyanto stated that the government is providing cash assistance of Rp600,000 per family per month for six months, along with the provision of temporary housing.

“This policy was adopted as a rapid response by the central government to ease the burden on communities that lost their homes or sources of livelihood due to flooding,” he said.

BNPB has also opened opportunities for the construction of permanent housing and increased personnel deployment to accelerate response efforts and aid distribution, as part of comprehensive assistance until communities have fully recovered. (*)
