Government Ensures National Fuel Stocks Are Secure for the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year Holidays

Jakarta – Ahead of the 2026 Christmas and New Year holidays, the government is ensuring that fuel supplies are secure and meet national security standards. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, stated that the government has set special stock security standards to address the surge in public mobility at the end of the year.

“For Christmas and New Year, the national fuel stock is still within our standards, 18 to 21 days. God willing, there will be no problems,” Bahlil said.

Bahlil emphasized that the government continues to monitor distribution movements to ensure there are no significant obstacles in the field. He also highlighted the fact that a number of privately owned gas stations (SPBU) experienced supply shortages at certain times.

“If they want to do business, they’re welcome to, but they must follow the applicable regulations,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Pertamina Patra Niaga stated that it has prepared additional supplies to secure the public’s energy needs during the peak Christmas and New Year holidays. Pertamina Patra Niaga’s President Director, Ega Legowo Putra, explained that the additional supplies come from increased refinery production and imports.

“Of course, we will increase production from the refinery, and we will also import some additional supplies,” said Ega.

According to Ega, this anticipatory measure demonstrates Pertamina’s commitment to supporting government policies and ensuring smooth energy distribution throughout the region, including along homecoming routes and areas with increased tourism activity.

Fuel supply readiness is also strengthened by the Pertamina International Refinery (KPI)’s move to expedite the formation of the Energy Distribution Control and Monitoring Task Force. This task force will be on duty from late November 2025 to early January 2026 and will work in an integrated manner, from the head office to all operational units. Acting KPI Corporate Secretary, Milla Suciyani, stated that the Task Force will focus on three main aspects: stock readiness, production capacity, and smooth distribution.

“KPI ensures that refineries remain operational throughout the Christmas and New Year holidays. We ensure that all facilities produce products according to plan, reliably and safely,” said Milla.

Milla explained that KPI implements strict inventory management to maintain smooth production during peak consumption. Chemical availability is maintained at over two months, catalysts at over six months, and fast-moving materials are prepared specifically during the Task Force’s work period. Furthermore, crude oil stocks are maintained at around 15 days of refinery needs to ensure optimal production processes.*
