JAKARTA – The issue circulating regarding mass layoffs (PHK) in the domestic industrial sector has received serious attention from the government.
Minister of Manpower, Yassierli firmly stated that information regarding large-scale layoffs in various companies does not correspond to reality.
“We have confirmed directly with several large companies, including PT Mayora Indah Tbk, and they confirmed that there were no large-scale layoffs,” said Yassierli.
This statement confirms the government’s commitment to providing accurate information to the public and closely monitoring the condition of the labor market. Despite a number of reports circulating, Yassierli said that the manufacturing sector is still recording very positive performance.
“The manufacturing industry actually provides greater opportunities for new workers compared to the number of workers affected by layoffs,” he said.
In this context, Yassierli acknowledged that the Ministry of Manpower is verifying data related to the number of workers affected by layoffs until February 2025. This verification process is important to provide clear and transparent information to the public. The government ensures that every effort is made to maintain the stability of the labor market.
The Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita also provided an explanation regarding the industrial sector. According to Agus, although there have been adjustments in certain companies, the manufacturing sector as a whole continues to show encouraging developments.
“We remain optimistic and committed to encouraging new investment and improving the performance of the industrial sector, which will certainly create more jobs for the community,” said Agus.
As a real example, the absorption of labor in the manufacturing sector in 2024 showed encouraging results.
“The ratio of absorption of new labor in the manufacturing sector in 2024 reached 1:20, which shows that this sector remains the main pillar in creating jobs in Indonesia,” added Agus.
Bank Permata Chief Economist Josua Pardede also gave his views on the positive potential of the Indonesian economy going forward. Josua stated that despite the challenges faced by several sectors, the government’s priority programs still have great potential in absorbing labor.
“Programs such as Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) and 3 Million Houses will have a positive impact on economic growth and sustainable job creation,” concluded Josua.
These government programs are expected to not only strengthen the absorption of labor, but also be able to encourage more inclusive and sustainable economic growth. These steps are taken to ensure that Indonesia can continue to grow amidst global challenges and provide direct benefits to the welfare of the community.
The government continues to be committed to creating new opportunities for Indonesian workers and supporting the industrial sector in increasing national competitiveness.
