Jakarta – The government continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to safeguarding national energy security by establishing and activating an Energy Distribution Task Force to anticipate a surge in fuel (BBM) demand during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holiday period (Nataru). This policy is a strategic measure to ensure that energy supplies remain secure, evenly distributed, and smoothly delivered amid increased public mobility at year’s end.
The Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) has strengthened cross-sector coordination with PT Pertamina Patra Niaga and other relevant stakeholders, particularly in strategic regions such as West Java Province. The region has become a key focus due to heavy travel flows and its role as a national hub for economic and tourism activities.
BPH Migas Committee Member Fathul Nugroho stated that the government has prepared Regular, Alternative, and Emergency (RAE) distribution schemes as part of comprehensive mitigation efforts. “BPH Migas is coordinating with stakeholders such as PT Pertamina Patra Niaga to ensure fuel supply security and the smooth implementation of the RAE scheme, especially in disaster-prone areas,” he said during a working visit by Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Bandung, West Java.
Based on the results of this coordination, fuel stocks and distribution in West Java were reported to be safe and under control. The distribution of natural gas through pipelines, including household gas networks, is also proceeding without disruption. Fathul emphasized that the RAE scheme plays a vital role in maintaining public access to energy. “This scheme functions to ensure that fuel availability remains secure so that the public can meet their energy needs to support economic activities,” he explained.
Support for the government’s measures also came from the DPR RI. Deputy Chair of Commission XII of the DPR RI, Dony Maryadi Oekon, expressed appreciation for the government’s preparedness in addressing increased energy demand during the holiday period. “We want to directly ensure that fuel and LPG stock adequacy during Nataru is in a safe condition,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pertamina (Persero) has activated its 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year Task Force earlier than in previous years. This task force operates around the clock and involves all sub-holdings and subsidiaries. Public policy expert Dr. Bachtiar Dwi Kurniawan viewed this move as a signal of the government’s and the state-owned energy company’s seriousness in improving service quality. “The earlier formation of the task force demonstrates a more mature level of readiness in facing a surge in energy consumption,” he said.
With the strengthening of the Distribution Task Force and solid cross-sector synergy, the government is optimistic that the spike in fuel demand during the Christmas and New Year holidays can be optimally anticipated. This step underscores the state’s presence in guaranteeing the public’s energy needs, ensuring smooth transportation, and supporting the stability of economic and social activities during the Christmas and New Year period.
