JAKARTA – The government, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi), continues to intensify efforts to eradicate online gambling by involving the active role of the community. One of the steps that is expected is reporting content or activities related to online gambling through the official channels that have been provided.
Acting Director General of Public Communication and Media of Kemkomdigi, Molly Prabawaty said that the community has an important role in this joint effort.
“Together, we can protect our families and communities from the dangers of online gambling. Let’s build a healthier, more productive, and more prosperous society. Online gambling is a scam,” said Molly.
She explained that the public can report online gambling promotional content through platforms such as aduankonten.id, WhatsApp service at 0811-9224-545, and the Stop Online Gambling chatbot at 0811-1001-5080. In addition, the cekrekening.id website is also available to report suspicious accounts suspected of being used for criminal acts.
From 2017 to December 2024, Kemkomdigi has blocked more than 5.4 million online gambling-related content.
“This is the result of collaboration involving various parties. Without public support, this achievement would not have been possible,” added Molly.
In the latest step, the Ministry of Communication and Digital has also blocked several social media accounts with hundreds of thousands to millions of followers, such as the Instagram accounts @supporter_dkijkt, @nona.verra, and @cut.syeli, which are suspected of being affiliated with online gambling promotions. From the beginning to the end of December 2024, the government has taken action against more than 163,000 content, accounts, and sites related to online gambling.
University of Indonesia sociologist Nadia Yovani said that efforts to eradicate online gambling require cross-sector collaboration.
“The community, government, and business organizations must work together. Community groups, including NGOs, need to socialize the dangers of online gambling, while enforcement remains the task of the police,” said Nadia.
She also encouraged community groups to initiate dialogue with policy makers, such as the DPR and the Police, in order to have the same vision in eradicating online gambling.
“If there are indications of online gambling activities, the community must immediately report to the authorities,” she said.
The government hopes that more active community involvement can accelerate the eradication of online gambling in order to create a safer and cleaner digital environment.
