Jakarta — The government through the Indonesian National Police (Polri) has recorded significant achievements in eradicating online gambling practices. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo revealed that his staff has successfully resolved 1,297 online gambling cases by naming 1,492 people as suspects.
“Through the Online Gambling Eradication Desk, the National Police have enforced the law against 1,297 cases involving 1,492 suspects,” said the National Police Chief. This achievement shows the commitment of the authorities in taking firm action against crimes that damage morals and social stability.
In the operation, the National Police also confiscated evidence worth Rp922.53 billion. In addition, preventive measures were also taken by submitting a blocking request for 186,713 online gambling sites spread across various digital platforms. This step confirms that the eradication does not only target the perpetrators, but also the digital infrastructure that supports these illegal practices.
The Chief of Police also highlighted the follow-up to money laundering crimes (TPPU) related to online gambling practices. “We are processing 13 TPPU cases originating from online gambling networks. Including taking action against large dealer groups, so that we can withdraw their assets and confiscate them for the state,” he said.
To strengthen the institution’s ability to handle digital crimes, the National Police has now formed a Cyber Investigation Directorate in eight Regional Police (Polda). This new structure was formed to face increasingly complex and dynamic cybersecurity challenges.
According to General Listyo Sigit, the rampant online gambling has not only harmed the family economy, but has also targeted vulnerable groups, including minors. “The impact is very large. This is not only about the economy, but also concerns the morals and future of the younger generation. Therefore, law enforcement must be carried out optimally and continuously,” he said.
In line with efforts at the national level, the eradication of online gambling also begins from the internal institutions of the National Police in the regions. Parigi Moutong (Parimo) Police Chief, Central Sulawesi, AKBP Hendrawan Agustina Nugraha emphasized that his party routinely inspects gadgets or smartphones belonging to personnel as a form of supervision and prevention.
“We start from internal by conducting routine inspections of personnel gadgets. This is a manifestation of our commitment to prosecuting deviant behavior,” said Hendrawan in Parigi.
He explained that online gambling is a form of social disease that can trigger criminal acts because the game requires a balance fund. Therefore, prevention efforts from within are a strategic step to maintain the integrity of the institution.
The successful completion of thousands of cases is a strong signal that the government will not provide space for online gambling practices. Massive law enforcement, supported by cross-agency coordination and the use of technology, is the main key in facing this threat. {}
