Jakarta – Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia said, based on United Nations (UN) data, the total growth of investment entering ASEAN countries will grow by 5 percent in 2022. This excellent achievement is inversely proportional to world investment fell by -12 percent on an annual basis (year on year/yoy).
Executive Director of the Segara Research Institute, Piter Abdullah, appreciated Minister Bahlil’s performance amidst global uncertainty but was still able to convince investors to invest in Indonesia.
“If you look at the data, it is indeed increasing, we cannot deny the data, what the Minister of Investment said was based on data,” said Piter.
According to him, the reason investment in the ASEAN region continues to grow positively is because it has stability and excellent economic prospects, thus attracting investors.
“Why is investment in ASEAN countries still growing in the midst of declining global conditions? The answer is because ASEAN countries, including or primarily Indonesia, Vietnam, have excellent economic stability and prospects,” he said.
Piter argues that among ASEAN countries that have good economic prospects, Indonesia has the potential to become the center of economic growth or the epicenter of growth, especially in ASEAN.
“Indonesia as the largest economy in ASEAN clearly has the potential to become the epicenter of growth in ASEAN,” he explained.
Furthermore, Piter assessed that Indonesia must be able to take advantage of all the economic potential in the country to be able to make Indonesia the epicenter of growth in ASEAN.
“In fact, if we do not become the epicenter of growth, it will be an indicator of our failure to take advantage of all economic potential,” said Piter.
