Bali – Indonesia is hosting the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali. This international forum discussing water-related issues will be held at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center on 18-25 May 2024.
According to Dr. KG Dharma Putra, Lecturer in Environmental Chemistry, FMIPA, Udayana University, Indonesia has extensive experience in organizing large-scale international events and has abundant potential water resources, making it an ideal place to discuss global water solutions.
“Indonesia is very experienced in organizing large and international events. “Previous experience also shows that these activities were very successful,” said Dharma.
Dharma praised that Indonesia is located in the equatorial region which has two seasons, the rainy season and the dry season, with the potential for very abundant water resources.
“This makes Indonesia a strategic and appropriate place to discuss water issues and discuss future policies to save water on earth,” he added.
Later there will be three discussions at WWF 2024 Bali, covering thematic, political and regional topics. Within the thematic topics, six sub-themes have been determined, namely Water Security and Prosperity, Water for Humans and Nature, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Governance, Cooperation, and Hydro-diplomacy Sustainable Water Finance, Knowledge and Innovation.
On regional topics, it is divided into four regions, namely the Mediterranean, Asia Pacific, Africa and America. Meanwhile, political topics are divided into meetings at the level of heads of state, ministers, parliament, regional governments and river basin authorities.
Udayana University academic, Efatha Filomeno Borromeu Duarte, revealed that Indonesia’s moment as host of WWF 2024 is a breath of fresh air for Bali and for water management. Efatha assesses that holding forums and transnational cooperation can create integrated policies regarding water sustainability.
“This is the key to overcoming issues regarding good water management,” stressed Efatha.
Efatha also emphasized the importance of Blue Diplomacy which should not be underestimated. This diplomacy is a tool to strengthen international cooperation for water resources management.
This forum is expected to become a platform for various stakeholders from various countries to share experiences and innovations in responding to a number of challenges in global water management.
