Jakarta – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) revealed that Indonesia is ready to hold the 43rd ASEAN High Level Conference (KTT) in Jakarta on 5-7 September 2023.
“Everything has been planned, has been prepared, and we hope that by the ASEAN Summit everything will be 100 percent ready in September,” said President Jokowi in Jakarta.
President Jokowi added that Indonesia’s chairmanship of ASEAN would lay a strong foundation for Southeast Asia. So that Southeast Asia becomes stronger in facing various challenges that will hit the region in the future.
“ASEAN is able to face challenges and respond to dynamics,” he explained.
According to President Jokowi, the ASEAN region must develop in various fields. This is because Southeast Asia has a great responsibility for the welfare of hundreds of millions of people from each country there.
“ASEAN as a big ship must continue to move forward, this big ship must continue to sail, this big ship must not sink, because this is our responsibility to the hundreds of lives of the people who are on board,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Dirjen IKP Kominfo), Usman Kansong, said that the ASEAN Summit (43rd ASEAN Summit 2023) will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), and will be attended by 26 countries, namely 10 ASEAN member countries and several other invited countries.
“The 43rd ASEAN Summit will be attended by 26 countries, apart from Southeast Asian countries, several countries will join the ASEAN Summit, including Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, the Russian Federation, the United States, “Canada as well as several international organizations, for example the UN or United Nations,” explained Usman Kansong.
At the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, several important themes will be discussed, such as the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, South East Asian Nuclear Weapon Free Zone or SEANFWZ, ASEAN Matirime Outlook, food security, energy transition, financial stability, and ASEAN Outlook in Asia Pacific. or AOIP.
“Then we also discussed cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and of course the Myanmar issue,” said Usman.
Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Teuku Faizasyah said that unlike the 42nd Summit in Labuan Bajo which was held last May, the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta was not only attended by leaders of member countries of the regional organization, but also heads of state/government. from ASEAN partner countries.
“The 43rd ASEAN Summit involves all ministries and institutions whose aim is to make the event a success,” said Teuku Faizasyah.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also responsible for substantive aspects and friends at the Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation have worked hard to ensure that at this summit there are substantive achievements that can truly reflect our chairmanship in 2023,” he concluded.
