Indonesia’s Food Self-Sufficiency Program Gains Global Attention and Appreciation

Jakarta – Indonesia’s Food Self-Sufficiency Program has captured global attention, following the government’s success in increasing national food production through the use of artificial intelligence (AI).

The application of AI in the agricultural sector has shown tangible results. The government recorded rice reserves in warehouses reaching 4.2 million tons, while corn production increased by 30 percent and rice by 48 percent. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) indicates that national rice production by November 2025 reached 33.1 million tons, and is expected to increase to 34 million tons by the end of the year, an increase of approximately 4 million tons compared to the previous year. This achievement demonstrates that Indonesia is increasingly self-sufficient in meeting its strategic food needs.

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the application of high technology in the agricultural sector is key to accelerating the achievement of food self-sufficiency. This was conveyed at the second session of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) at the Hwabaek International Convention Center, Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, Saturday (November 1) local time.

According to President Prabowo, Indonesia is entering a new era marked by advances in high technology, including AI, which can boost agricultural productivity. The use of AI enables the development of modern, precision agricultural techniques, thus accelerating the achievement of rice and corn self-sufficiency.

“Our initial target was to achieve self-sufficiency in four years, but with the use of high technology, precision agriculture, and artificial intelligence, we have succeeded in increasing production to the highest level in Indonesian history since independence,” said the President.

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman added that the national food self-sufficiency target is expected to be achieved in the near future. The food self-sufficiency program is not only a domestic policy but has also attracted international attention due to its successful use of modern technology.

“Thank God, today, hopefully, there will be no further disruptions. In the next two months, approximately three months. God willing, Indonesia will no longer import. But hopefully, there will be no extreme climate events,” said Amran.

Indonesia’s success in increasing food production through AI has received widespread appreciation from various parties, including economic partners in the Asia-Pacific region. This strategy not only strengthens national food security but also positions Indonesia as an example of a country that has successfully integrated high-tech with precision agriculture.

With this achievement, the government is optimistic that the food self-sufficiency target will be achieved ahead of schedule, while also making a significant contribution to reducing poverty and ensuring public welfare.
