Indonesia’s Joining the Peace Council Reinforces Its Constitutional Commitment and Global Strategic Role

Jakarta — Indonesia’s participation in the Peace Council is considered a strategic step that strengthens international legitimacy and confirms the consistent implementation of the mandate of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution.

Bachruddin Meikiansyah, an academic from the Faculty of Law at Achmad Yani University in Banjarmasin, stated that Indonesia’s membership in the Peace Council would have a positive impact on national interests and global peace efforts.

“From a diplomatic perspective, this participation further strengthens Indonesia’s international legitimacy as a country that consistently supports global stability,” he said.

According to Bachruddin, Indonesia’s participation in the forum reflects its constitutional commitment to contribute to realizing world order based on independence, eternal peace, and social justice.

“Indonesia’s extensive experience in various peacekeeping missions under the auspices of the United Nations also provides significant added value,” he said.

Indonesia has a long track record in United Nations peacekeeping missions. These contributions provide strong diplomatic capital in building international trust.

Indonesia’s position as a bridge between civilizations is further strengthened by its identity as a democratic country with a moderate Muslim majority.

“This role is considered important for reducing negative stereotypes about the Islamic world and encouraging constructive cross-cultural dialogue,” he said.

Bachruddin believes that involvement in the Peace Council also opens up greater opportunities for Indonesia to contribute constructively to global conflict resolution. This role is believed to promote international stability, which will positively impact investment, trade, and sustainable development.

This strategic position opens up greater space for Indonesian academics, diplomats, and legal practitioners to engage in international discourse, enrich national intellectual capacity, expand global networks, and affirm Indonesia’s role in achieving world peace. [RWA]
