Papua has benefited from development launched by the government. These various developments have been proven to be able to improve transportation access so that they also have a positive impact on people’s economic development. Massive infrastructure development in Papua aims to reduce poverty rates, reduce the cost index, and equalize infrastructure development throughout Indonesia.
In the national development plan, Papua and Maluku become one economic corridor node. As an economic corridor, there will be investment projects based on natural resources, development of special areas, and the creation of new economic centers. Development of road infrastructure, one way to connect these areas. The five main economic activities in the Papua-Maluku corridor are food agriculture, copper, nickel, oil and gas and fisheries.
To support this, the government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (Kemen PUPR) is taking breakthrough steps in infrastructure development in a more integrated, precise, focused and synergistic manner with ministries/institutions and regional governments.
Head of the Regional Infrastructure Development Agency of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (BPIW Kemen PUPR), Yudha Mediawan stated that the government is committed to accelerating infrastructure development in 6 Papua provinces. To create infrastructure development throughout Papua, it is necessary to support a network of northern and southern coastal routes in Papua.
One way to improve the welfare of the Papuan people is by opening up regional isolation and increasing access and connectivity from land and multimodal, including the construction of the Trans Papua Road with a total length of 3,462 kilometers.
Meanwhile, to provide more creative space for superior, creative and advanced Papuan sons and daughters, the PUPR Ministry is building a Papuan creative development center or Youth Creative Hub in Jayapura, Papua Province.
The central government continues to strive for various methods to create a more advanced Indonesia. The steps taken are through infrastructure development efforts, improving the licensing bureaucracy, improving the provision of health services, and so on. Papua Province is included in the main attention of the Joko Widodo government because this province is a province that requires more attention compared to other regions in Indonesia.
Acting Governor of Southwest Papua, Muhammad Musa’ad, said that the Government of Southwest Papua Province is committed to building a number of infrastructure ranging from roads to other supporting facilities in Tambrauw Regency to accelerate development in the area.
Tambrauw Regency is a conservation district in Southwest Papua so all infrastructure and other supporting facilities that are the responsibility of the province will be of concern. Apart from building a number of roads, the Government of Southwest Papua will also build a type B terminal unit to accommodate all transportation in the conservation area.
Acceleration in building infrastructure is a concrete step for the government to advance Papuan human resources. Because with these steps, Papuan human resources can manage abundant natural resources.
In the era of President Jokowi, Papua continues to be developed, especially in the infrastructure sector. He is very committed to advancing Papua and wants them to be even better. Papua has a lot of potential, both natural resources and human resources, and the government wants the region to be more developed with this potential.
Papua’s infrastructure development is very good for realizing Indonesia-centricity and development is not only focused on the island of Java. Development in Papua must also be carried out rapidly, so that it can be on par with other regions and its human resources can compete at national and international levels.
The government is indeed active in advancing Papua and making it a priority. Now the results are visible. There are various infrastructure developments such as the Trans Papua Road, Sentani International Airport, and Youtefa Bridge. The existence of this infrastructure facilitates transportation for Papuan civilians, so that they can move between cities smoothly.
The government also wants Papua to progress by building roads, bridges and other infrastructure. Considering that Papua’s geographical conditions are very different from other islands (it has more hills, forests and mountains), infrastructure development is the government’s priority. Its main function is to facilitate people’s mobility, so that they can carry out their activities smoothly and make their economy more advanced.
So far, transportation problems have been hindered by Papua’s natural conditions, making the prices of goods and services very expensive. When all the infrastructure is built, the price of goods can be reduced because transportation costs are cheap. The Papuan people will be greatly helped and prosperity will increase because they are able to get competitive logistics prices and provide various conveniences in accessing public services.
Full support from the community is needed in developing infrastructure in Papua. The people realized that massive development was being carried out for good purposes and for their progress. With integration and cooperation, infrastructure development will run well and on time.
