Jakarta – The Indonesian government through the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) RI will hold the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 on September 5-6 in Jakarta. The forum, supported by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin Indonesia), is expected to be the largest sustainability forum in the Asia-Pacific, with more than 8,000 participants.
Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Rachmat Kaimuddin, stated that ISF 2024 will bring together world leaders, CEOs, and sustainability experts to drive breakthroughs in business to address climate change issues. “We are now in the decisive seconds, a make-or-break moment, because every small step we take can cause regression or progress in addressing the climate crisis,” said Rachmat in Jakarta.
Rachmat emphasized that most greenhouse gas emissions come from business and industrial activities. Therefore, active involvement of the private sector in the sustainability agenda is essential. “The business world must dare to step forward, innovate, and lead the process towards a greener and more inclusive sustainable future,” he added.
ISF 2024 will also be a platform to showcase Indonesia’s decarbonization progress, which is at the heart of the country’s climate commitments. In addition, the forum will provide updates on national and global strategies to combat climate change.
Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Shinta Widjaja Kamdani, emphasized the importance of the role of the business sector in driving sustainability practices and agendas.
“There will be no future on a dead planet. This is why it is necessary to ensure the sustainability of the world today. Humans are faced with an emergency that should be of concern to everyone, including the corporate world,” Shinta stressed.
Shinta also highlighted that the adoption of Environmental Social Governance (ESG) practices offers significant business benefits.
“ESG-focused companies not only contribute positively to sustainability, but also attract more investment, achieve better long-term financial performance, and manage risks more effectively,” he explained.
The forum will feature keynote speakers including Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Minister of Environment of the Democratic Republic of Congo Eve Bazaiba, and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Ocean Peter Thomson. More than 100 other speakers from business, civil society, and government will also participate in 10 panel sessions and 15 thematic sessions.
With ISF 2024, it is hoped that business breakthroughs in addressing climate change issues will increase, in line with global efforts to create a greener and more sustainable future.
