MBG Program Builds a Golden Generation Through Improved Child Nutrition

Jakarta – The government continues to intensify the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program as one of the national strategies to build Indonesia’s Golden Generation by 2045. Launched on January 6, 2025, the program has begun phased implementation in various regions across the country.

At the national level, the MBG Program has shown promising progress. As of June 16, 2025, data recorded the establishment of 1,787 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs), serving over 6.2 million people. One of the regions that has actively started implementing this program is Pati Regency in Central Java.

Member of Commission IX of the House of Representatives, Edy Wuryanto, revealed that seven MBG kitchens have already been built and are operational in Pati.

“The implementation of the MBG Program in Pati Regency has shown positive progress. Currently, seven Nutrition Food Production Units (SPPGs) have been established and are operational,” he stated.

The local Health Office has also conducted Hygiene and Sanitation Eligibility Certificate (SLHS) training for one of the SPPGs, with six more scheduled to undergo the same training. This training is aimed at ensuring that the nutritious food produced is safe and meets sanitation standards.

Edy added that the success of the MBG Program relies heavily on synergy between the central and local governments, as well as active community participation.

“The MBG Program is a concrete manifestation of the government’s concern for nutritional well-being, particularly for those who have limited access to nutritious food,” he added.

To accelerate the understanding and implementation of the MBG Program in the regions, direct public outreach activities have also been conducted. One such event took place in Tanjung Rambutan Village, Kampar Regency, Riau. Held at the village hall, the event was attended by more than 300 participants and featured several speakers, including Commission IX Member Sahidin and BGN’s Nutrition Promotion and Education Coordinator, Mohamad Fadil Alchoiri.

In his presentation, Sahidin emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration to ensure the program’s success in all corners of the country. He also noted that the event is a continuation of BGN’s initiative.

“The main targets of this program are school students, as well as non-school groups such as pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers,” he explained.

Meanwhile, BGN staff member Mohamad Fadil Alchoiri highlighted that optimal nutrition has a direct impact on reducing stunting rates and improving youth intelligence.

“A nutritionally fulfilled community will directly contribute to reducing stunting and improving the overall quality of human resources,” he stated.
