Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, in the closing of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (IIISF) 2024, expressed his appreciation for the commitment of the participants who had contributed to discussions on climate change and sustainability for two full days. Luhut emphasized that this event succeeded in creating important momentum for real action in the future.
“We are very pleased to be able to join you all in this event. The presence of participants who remain full in this room shows a strong commitment, not only from Indonesia, but also from the global world, in facing the challenges of climate change,” said Luhut in his speech, Friday (6/9).Luhut also acknowledged that the discussion in this forum was very productive and inspiring. “Your participation has resulted in a discussion that has a big impact on sustainability. We have also created a platform that brings the voices and narratives of developing countries,” he added.Over the past five years, Indonesia’s role in global efforts to address climate change has received increasing attention. Luhut expressed his pride in Indonesia’s progress in leading the dialogue on energy transition, especially after the introduction of the JP energy transition plan two years ago. “Today, Indonesia’s important role in this issue is increasingly apparent. I only realized how important Indonesia’s role is after we learned more about the energy transition,” Luhut said.He stressed the importance of international collaboration in dealing with the complexities of energy transition and sustainability issues. “We need to collaborate, and to be able to work well together, we must understand each other. Without deep understanding and collaboration, we cannot achieve the transformation that we need,” Luhut said.Luhut is also optimistic that the momentum built during IISF 2024 will result in real action. “I strongly believe that we will maintain the momentum created in the last two days and turn discussions into meaningful action,” he said.The closing of IISF 2024 affirms Indonesia’s commitment to continue to be at the forefront in addressing climate change and encouraging global collaboration to create real, sustainable action.
