Bali – President Joko Widodo officially opened the 2nd Indonesia Africa Forum (IAF) and the High Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP). On that occasion, the President invited the world community to increase solidarity and equality in facing global challenges.
Initially, President Jokowi described that amid global challenges such as economic slowdown, unemployment, inflation, and ongoing geopolitical tensions, international solidarity is actually weakening.
“But what is very unfortunate, at a time like this, international solidarity is actually declining. The spirit of multilateralism is getting thinner, and fragmentation is getting wider,” said Jokowi in Bali, Monday (2/9).
President Jokowi also expressed his concern about the impact felt by developing countries due to the current global situation.
“Ultimately, developing countries are the ones that are most affected. Millions of people in developing countries are facing severe hardship, while we only have six years left until 2030, and only 17% of the SDGs targets have been achieved,” he explained.
Therefore, President Jokowi emphasized the need for a new direction and vision to achieve more equitable and inclusive development, especially for developing countries.
In addition, Jokowi also emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to being part of the global solution, especially in fighting for equality, justice, and solidarity.
“Indonesia is committed to being part of the global solution, as well as being a bridge builder in fighting for equality, justice, and solidarity to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs,” Jokowi emphasized.
Furthermore, President Jokowi also opened the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF-MSP) which was held simultaneously in Bali. This forum is a platform to strengthen multi-party partnerships in facing increasingly complex global challenges.
“With this, I declare the high-level multi-party partnership forum and the second Indonesia-Africa Forum opened,” he concluded.
The 2nd IAF and HLF-MSP 2024 are important momentum for Indonesia to continue to strengthen its role in the global arena, especially in encouraging more inclusive cooperation and strong international solidarity.
