Development in Papua is often an important topic in discussions regarding regional progress and integration in Indonesia. Optimizing development in Papua does not only focus on economic aspects, but also on achieving social and cultural goals, so that Papua can become a symbol that reflects an integral part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
The Merauke Indigenous People in Papua have given approval for the construction of a 1 kilometer port as part of the government’s program to create a national food barn. This agreement was reached after hearing an explanation of the benefits of the program by Andi Syamsuddin Arsyad, known as Haji Isam, together with local officials.
At the meeting, the Chair of the Indigenous Community Institution (LMA) Yohanis Mahuze, indigenous community coordinator Basilius Awabali, as well as 60 members of the local community were present. Haji Isam was also accompanied by Dansatgas Hanpangan TNI Headquarters Major General TNI A. Rizal R. Hermanto and Johanes Gluba Gabzi from government representatives.
This agreement underlines the commitment of indigenous communities to support government programs, with an emphasis on rights to their customary land and management of waste wood by local indigenous communities. This shows that there is mutual understanding and cooperation between the government and indigenous communities in implementing development projects.
Haji Isam, who owns the Jhonlin Group, is fully committed to realizing the program to create a million hectares of rice fields in Merauke, South Papua. To support this goal, he has acquired 2,000 units of heavy equipment from China and plans to build supporting infrastructure in the region.
Apart from port construction, PT Batulicin Beton Asphalt (BBA) managed by Haji Isam has also started a road construction project in Merauke. This road work starts from Wanam point, Ilwayab District, Merauke Regency, and is planned to connect four districts: Ilwayab District, Kaptel, Ngguti, and Muting District. This road will not only support the rice field printing project, but is also expected to overcome the isolation problem in several areas of Merauke.
It is hoped that this infrastructure development can accelerate economic progress in Papua and provide solutions to various challenges faced by the local community. With connected ports and roads, it is hoped that it will facilitate access and increase economic potential in the region, as well as strengthen Papua’s integration in the context of national development.
Papua, with its abundant natural and cultural riches, has great potential to develop into one of the centers of economic growth in Indonesia. However, to achieve this potential, there needs to be an appropriate and sustainable development strategy. Optimizing development in Papua requires a comprehensive and inclusive approach so that the results can be felt by all levels of society.
One of the main aspects in optimizing Papua’s development is improving infrastructure. Adequate infrastructure will support various economic and social activities, as well as facilitate access to various basic services. The construction of roads, bridges and other transportation facilities is very important to connect remote areas with economic and government centers.
Development policies in Papua must pay attention to cultural aspects and local wisdom. An approach that respects and involves indigenous communities in the development planning and implementation process will increase community support and participation. This is also important to maintain cultural diversity and preserve the environment.
Optimizing development also requires synergy between central and regional governments. Good coordination between the two parties will ensure that development programs run effectively and in accordance with local needs. Local governments must be empowered to design and implement development policies that are appropriate to the local context.
The agribusiness sector has great potential to encourage economic growth in Papua. The development of food and horticultural crops, as well as the sustainable use of forest products, can improve the welfare of farmers and rural communities. Support for agricultural research and technology is also important to increase productivity and quality of agricultural products.
Sustainable development must include environmental conservation efforts. Papua has very high biodiversity, and development activities must be carried out taking into account their impact on the environment. Wise management of natural resources and application of sustainability principles will maintain ecosystem balance.
The importance of transparency and accountability in development implementation must also be considered. The process of planning and implementing development projects must be carried out openly and involve the community in supervision. This will increase public trust and ensure that development provides the maximum benefits.
Development in Papua must be seen as a long-term investment that will have a positive impact on the future. With the right approach, Papua can become a symbol of the success of inclusive and sustainable development, and show that every part of the Republic of Indonesia has an important role in the country’s progress.
Optimizing development in Papua will not only bring benefits to the region, but will also strengthen the unity and integrity of the Republic of Indonesia. With good cooperation between all parties, Papua can develop into a strong and integrated part of Indonesia, reflecting the richness and diversity that exists throughout the archipelago.
