Papua Street Carnival, Collaboration between BIN and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to Bring Papua More Prosperity

Papua – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) believes the Papua Street Carnival 2023 can become a forum for young Papuans to develop themselves and improve the welfare of the Papuan people.

President Jokowi officially opened the Papua Street Carnival which was held by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf). This activity is the result of a collaboration with the Papua Youth Creative Hub (PYCH) which is under the auspices of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN).

The event had the theme Papua Extravaganza (The East Great Spirit) featuring a fashion show accompanied by music from local Papuan artists. In addition, there is also a creative product exhibition fostered at PYCH.

Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno who attended the event gave his high appreciation for the works of PYCH youth. Sandi stated that the Papua Street Carnival would be held every year.

Sandi is optimistic that with the collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and BIN led by Budi Gunawan, the creative industry in Papua will be more advanced, have a positive impact on the people of Papua and be in the world’s spotlight.

“I am very sure, together with Pak Ka BIN, Papua can become a new regional icon, holding interesting events in the eyes of the world,” said Sandi.

Sandi stated that the collaboration with PYCH, which is under the guidance of BIN, will enable the creative economy potential in Papua to be realized.

“Together with BIN, we, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, are collaborating, the Papua Street Carnival is a form of ‘Gercep, Mr. President’ moving quickly,” Sandi said.

In addition, PYCH’s presence at this event demonstrated BIN’s strategic role in supporting the development of the potential of young Papuans. The collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and PYCH is one of the concrete steps to encourage the growth of the tourism sector and the creative economy in Papua.

On this occasion, President Jokowi appreciated the existence of PYCH which he said had developed a lot since it was inaugurated in March 2023.
