The government of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka continues to strengthen its commitment to eradicating drugs throughout Indonesia. This step is reflected in various strategic efforts involving ministries, institutions, law enforcement officers, and the community. The government has emphasized legal action, prioritizing prevention, rehabilitation, and public education as part of a holistic strategy to eradicate drugs.
Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, Budi Gunawan, stated that the government has agreed to three main commitments in strengthening synergy in eradicating narcotics. The first commitment is to strengthen cooperation between ministries and institutions to create an integrated approach in combating drug trafficking. The second commitment is to accelerate the blocking of accounts used in drug transactions. The third commitment is to review the acceleration of the execution of sentences for drug convicts who have received permanent legal decisions.
The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs also revealed the significant achievements of the Drug Eradication Desk, an initiative established to improve cross-sector coordination. Within a month of its establishment, the desk has successfully uncovered thousands of narcotics cases, arrested nearly four thousand suspects, and confiscated evidence worth trillions of rupiah. He emphasized that all elements of society must make Indonesia an unfriendly area for drug criminals.
Meanwhile, the Chief of the Indonesian National Police, Listyo Sigit Prabowo, explained several strategic steps that have been agreed upon by law enforcement officers. The maximum penalty will be given to drug dealers and dealers, while the perpetrators of these crimes will be placed in facilities with super tight security. This is done to break the control of drug distribution which is often carried out from within correctional institutions.
The Chief of Police also highlighted the importance of optimizing the handling of money laundering crimes (TPPU) originating from drug crimes. This step includes freezing accounts suspected of being related to drug trafficking and strengthening cooperation with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) to break the financial chain of the crime. In the field of rehabilitation, he encouraged local governments to build more rehabilitation centers, so that victims of drug abuse can access adequate services.
At the regional level, the Riau Islands Province National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) also showed real steps in supporting the national drug eradication program. The Head of the Riau Islands BNNP, Hanny Hidayat, said that the Riau Islands region is one of the main entry points for drug smuggling because of its strategic location and direct border with neighboring countries. For this reason, the Riau Islands BNNP does not only focus on enforcement, but also strengthens the prevention and rehabilitation aspects.
Operations in vulnerable areas such as rat ports and borders are tightened by involving various agencies, including the TNI, Polri, and Customs. In addition, education for the community is also intensified through outreach programs in schools, campuses, and local communities. The Head of BNNP Kepri emphasized that prevention is the main key to breaking the chain of drug abuse. He also invited the community to actively report all forms of drug abuse in their environment.
One of the important elements in the effort to eradicate drugs is public literacy. The government under the leadership of Prabowo-Gibran has consistently intensified educational campaigns to increase public awareness of the dangers of drugs. The goal is to create a social environment that supports the prevention of drug abuse while providing an understanding of the importance of rehabilitation for victims.
The Prabowo-Gibran government realizes that drug eradication efforts require continuous steps and participation from all parties. Public support, from reporting cases to involvement in anti-drug campaigns, is essential to the success of this program.
The government continues to invite all elements of the nation to continue to support the government’s steps in creating a drug-free Indonesia. Through hard work and collaboration of all parties, Indonesia can become a safe and prosperous country, while protecting the future of the younger generation from the threat of drugs.
The drug eradication strategy will continue to be adjusted to the development of the modus operandi of drug crimes. The National Police continues to be committed to providing a sense of security to the community while taking firm action against every perpetrator of drug crimes without discrimination.
At the regional level, the Riau Islands BNNP is expected to be an example of a drug-free region through a holistic approach that combines enforcement, prevention, and rehabilitation. With strong synergy between the central and regional governments, as well as full support from the community, drug eradication in the country can be carried out effectively.
The Prabowo-Gibran government’s efforts to eradicate drugs in Indonesia reflect a strong commitment to the future of the nation. Through national synergy involving various parties, the government seeks to create a comprehensive approach to addressing the drug problem from upstream to downstream.
With strategic steps that include action, prevention, rehabilitation, and education, it is hoped that Indonesia can soon emerge from the drug emergency status. Synergy between the government, law enforcement officers, and the community is the key to realizing an Indonesia that is free from the threat of drugs. The Prabowo-Gibran government continues to be committed to protecting the nation’s next generation, building collective awareness, and creating a brighter future for all Indonesian people.
