Prabowo Praises Jokowi’s Achievements: Inflation Under Control, Economy Recovers Post-Pandemic

Jakarta – The president-elect for the 2024-2029 period, Prabowo Subianto, appreciates the achievements of President Joko Widodo’s government, especially in maintaining a stable national economy amidst very high global dynamics.

“Our economy is quite good, and I feel sad when we have a habit of badmouthing leaders, finding fault. However, the achievements of the government led by Mr. Jokowi are very impressive,” he stressed.

Prabowo explained that many other countries were unable to achieve the same feat, and it was rare for a president to be able to keep inflation at 2.5%.
“Many other countries have not been able to achieve the same thing. Where is there a president who has been able to keep inflation at 2.5%? If we look at the history of the past 30-40 years, very few countries have managed to keep inflation that low,” Prabowo continued.

Prabowo also emphasized that this achievement did not just come about.

“This is not an achievement that fell from the sky, we have just recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic. When I met with world leaders, they acknowledged, even surprised, how Indonesia could recover quickly and well from this pandemic,” he concluded.

In his opening remarks at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Thursday (5/9/2024), President Jokowi revealed the government’s fund allocation to respond to high global dynamics, which has made Indonesia resilient in preventing inflation.

During President Jokowi’s two terms of leadership, the inflation rate was successfully maintained in the range of 2-3%, although several other countries experienced inflation of up to 200%. In addition, the extreme poverty rate was also successfully reduced, from 6.1% to only 0.8% in 2024.

President Jokowi explained that various protection measures for the economically weak have been taken. Over the past ten years, the budget for the Healthy Indonesia Card has spent Rp362 trillion.

“The funds are used to finance health services for more than 92 million JKN participants each year, from infants to the elderly,” said President Jokowi in his remarks at the opening of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Thursday (5/9/2024).

President Jokowi also said that the Rp113 trillion budget allocated for the Smart Indonesia Card for a decade has provided benefits for more than 20 million students every year, from elementary school to high school/vocational school levels throughout Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the IDR361 trillion budget for the Healthy Indonesia Card has been used to serve the health of more than 92 million JKN participants each year.

And, the Rp225 trillion allocated for the Family Hope Program over the past ten years has helped improve the economic welfare of around 10 million underprivileged families per year.

On the other hand, support of Rp60.3 trillion from the pre-employment program for five years has been used to improve the skills of 18.8 million workers throughout Indonesia, he added.

“In addition, the decline in stunting rates also shows progress, from 37.2% to 21.5% in 2023, and the unemployment rate has been reduced from 5.7% to 4.8% in 2024,” he concluded.
