President Invites Foreign Investors to Join Danantara in Downstream Projects

JAKARTA – Prabowo Subianto has invited foreign investors from the United States to actively participate in Indonesia’s national downstream industrialization projects through the country’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara. The invitation was delivered during a Business Forum with the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C..

At the forum, the President reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral economic cooperation through the signing of an Indonesia–US trade agreement, scheduled to take place during his working visit. The agreement is expected to provide legal certainty and expand market access for businesses.

“I am here to finalize a major trade agreement between our two countries. I believe this is a very significant agreement for business actors and investors from both nations, as well as for the broader Pacific region,” Prabowo stated.

The President also underlined the importance of long-term partnerships to advance national modernization and industrialization. Indonesia, he said, aspires not only to be seen as a market but also as a strategic production base for global companies.

“We are looking for serious, long-term partners—partners who will work with us, grow the economy together, and create mutual benefits,” he said.

Prabowo assessed that Indonesia’s economic fundamentals remain strong, with consistent growth above 5 percent, controlled inflation, and maintained fiscal discipline. He acknowledged that challenges such as corruption and illegal economic activities remain areas requiring continued improvement.

“Foreign Direct Investment has been very positive. Last year it reached USD 53 billion. This reflects confidence in our economy, our market size, our growth potential, our political stability, and our policy direction,” he explained.

In the downstream sector, the President positioned Danantara as a key driving force. “We are moving forward with downstream industrial processing. I believe Danantara will be a crucial engine for this step. For example, we have just initiated 18 new downstream projects this year,” he said.

Meanwhile, at the Indonesia Economic Outlook forum, Danantara Chief Executive Officer and Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM, Rosan P. Roeslani, revealed that there are 20 downstream projects in the 2026 pipeline.

“Of the total 20 downstream programs, six to seven have already started since last week. The total value is approximately USD 26 billion and is expected to create around 600,000 jobs,” Rosan stated.

He added that the downstream strategy has been expanded to plantation, forestry, and marine sectors. He also emphasized a strong commitment to governance, including in waste-to-energy projects.

“We want to capture all the value added within Indonesia. We are not only looking at electricity generation, but also at the far more important health and environmental impacts,” Rosan concluded.
