Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to being present in a swift, integrated, and measured manner in addressing the needs of communities affected by natural disasters across several regions in Sumatra.
“I came to see the situation firsthand. Any shortcomings have already been reported to me, and we will address them immediately. As reported earlier by the governor, there is a shortage of clean water, especially drinking water,” President Prabowo said.
In addition, accelerating infrastructure repairs—particularly embankments—has become a top priority to prevent similar disasters from recurring. The President emphasized that all state resources are being mobilized to support these efforts, including the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Ministry of Public Works, and the National Police.
“Embankment repairs will be carried out immediately. The TNI Commander will mobilize forces, the Ministry of Public Works will mobilize resources, as will the Army and the Police. All our strength. Alhamdulillah, conditions are already better compared to my last visit,” the President stated.
The President also stressed that the government will continue to monitor disaster response efforts on an ongoing basis, ensuring that aid distribution and rehabilitation processes proceed smoothly.
“I will continue to monitor developments from day to day, from week to week. God willing, with all of our collective strength, we can face this and we will help everyone,” he said.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Ahmad Muzani, said that accelerating the recovery of community life following the disaster must be carried out immediately, particularly in the health, education, and religious sectors, so that social activities can return to normal.
“In essence, our focus is on helping communities and regional leaders so they can restore people’s lives after the disaster,” Muzani said.
Muzani also conveyed his deepest appreciation for the attention and support of President Prabowo Subianto in handling the disaster in Sumatra.
“As the leadership of the MPR, we express our gratitude for the extraordinary support from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, who has been very serious in handling the disaster in Sumatra. He has visited the disaster sites several times and continues to give close and serious attention,” Muzani emphasized.
The government hopes that through this swift and measured response, the impact of the disaster can be minimized and communities can soon resume their normal activities. President Prabowo’s commitment underscores that the state’s presence in emergency situations is a top priority to ensure the safety and well-being of the people.
