Jakarta – The government under President Prabowo Subianto continues to demonstrate its commitment to protecting and improving workers’ welfare. In the near future, the President will announce the formation of the National Workers’ Welfare Council (DKPN) along with a Layoff Task Force (Satgas PHK) as a strategic measure to prevent layoffs and strengthen the social safety net for employees.
President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI), Andi Gani Nena Wea, revealed that the President’s decision regarding the formation of DKPN has been finalized and is only awaiting official announcement.
“The format and structure of DKPN have been prepared; we are just waiting for the official announcement from the President, which is likely to take place soon,” said Andi Gani.
According to him, the establishment of this new institution reflects President Prabowo’s genuine concern for workers’ welfare. DKPN will function as a ministry-level body with legal authority to regulate various aspects of labor welfare, including wages, housing, and education.
“The President wants workers to have a strong, official platform that can directly influence policies that favor them,” he emphasized.
Once DKPN is formed, the government will also soon announce the establishment of the Layoff Task Force, which will work to reduce layoffs and accelerate the absorption of new workers.
“DKPN will create the Layoff Task Force. This task force will be led by an outstanding figure—a senior civil official within the government,” Andi Gani explained.
Meanwhile, Said Iqbal, President of the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI) and also President of the Labour Party, sees the formation of DKPN and the Layoff Task Force as a progressive step by President Prabowo to strengthen national labor policies.
“These two institutions will serve as crucial instruments for improving Indonesian workers’ welfare and providing direct input to the President in strategic decision-making,” Said Iqbal said.
He added that DKPN will have an Advisory Council and an Executive Council composed of representatives from trade unions and academia.
“There will be no representation from employers, as DKPN is solely focused on workers’ welfare. We have also provided input regarding the leadership of this institution, ensuring it is someone with comprehensive understanding of labor issues,” he concluded.
