President Prabowo Leads National Synergy to Restore Sumatra Post-Flood

JAKARTA – The government moved quickly to respond to the floods and landslides that hit Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, mobilizing all national resources to ensure the safety of residents and accelerate rehabilitation.

The synergy between the central and regional governments is evident in the coordination of emergency response, aid distribution, and the restoration of vital infrastructure.

President Prabowo Subianto completed his working visit to the affected areas on Monday, December 1, 2025, inspecting evacuation posts, monitoring the condition of damaged roads and bridges, and engaging in direct dialogue with thousands of residents.

“Thank God, I just saw the evacuees in Padang. I think all roads in Padang are starting to be accessible. The land route is accessible, though many bridges are also damaged. Electricity is almost 100 percent restored. Water is also starting to be repaired,” said the President.

He emphasized that restoring basic services is the main focus so that community activities can return to normal.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Pratikno explained that the President has led coordination across ministries, institutions, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), regional governments, and state-owned enterprises (BUMN) to ensure the swift distribution of logistical aid and emergency services.

“The President has instructed that this situation be treated as a national priority, including ensuring full availability of national funds and logistics. One way to do this is by utilizing the ready-to-use funds (DSP) during this emergency response,” he said.

“The President has instructed all institutions to be extra responsive and ensure a focus on rescuing victims, distributing aid, and restoring vital facilities and services,” Pratikno said.

He added that the government is also arranging the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase with a target of 100 days and a one-year work plan.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago emphasized that the central government is present with the people of West Sumatra in post-flood recovery.

“Don’t feel alone, especially the flash flood survivors. The government is with you all in facing this ordeal,” he said while handing over aid at the SDN 02 Cupak Tangah Emergency Response Post.

This collaborative support includes material assistance and active state involvement in the recovery process.

West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi emphasized that residents’ urgent needs would be addressed immediately, including clothing, blankets, and medicine.

“I have instructed the relevant agencies to take immediate action. We must ensure that no children miss school due to illness or lack of clothing,” he said.

The central and regional governments are working together to ensure public safety and expedite rehabilitation in affected areas, making the emergency response and reconstruction phases their top priority. (*)
